Whitetail Question
So I usually pull my trail cameras out after the season is over in January. Well this year I thought I would leave them up for the heck of it. I assumed when bucks dropped their horns they just fell off clean. I have this guy on one of my cams and it looks like it's Mr. Splinterhead???
Is this normal or is something wrong? Sorry the pic isn't any better and the only pics I have are at night.
Thanks,
Kevin

Check the bobwire fence to see if there's jewels dangling off it

That's what I would say too. But there are still hard horned deer here still... If barbwire is Tru be cool to see what he does or doesn't become

Re: Whitetail Question
When whitetails drop their antlers they break cleanly at the pedicle. That isn't a result of the annual antler drop for sure.

Re: Whitetail Question
I shot a buck several years ago. Had very strange bases very similar to your trailcam pic but also had somewhat normal points growing out of it. Also still had some velvet around bases. was middle of December. He also had no family jewels! it looked like antlers never dropped and new growth was trying to form layers over the old.
Re: Whitetail Question
Always heard then called "Cactus " bucks. Had one on the farm I hunt similar to that. Antlers were maybe 5 inches tall and maybe 20 points.Growing straight up.

He's either been accidently castrated or has some other issue going on.

Re: Whitetail Question
I've killed several deer with wonky racks but never seen anything like that. Did you leave the cam out & get any more recent pics?
