Cerakote Stevens 301?

Post by Meleagris gallopavo »

I keep talking myself into and out of getting my Stevens 301 .410 cerakoted. Not much to cerakote on those guns but a cerakote job may end up costing more than the gun itself. I don't see a lot of them cerakoted and it may be like putting lipstick on a pig. I was thinking about a pattern on the receiver and having just matt black on the barrel. May be too much to spend on an inexpensive gun that isn't supposed to look "nice". What do you think?

Spray paint it or leave it as is. The turkeys won't much care.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I was thinking more about aesthetics in general, not trying to camouflage it. I like the idea of cerakote for protecting the gun but usually that’s for more expensive guns.

Spray paint works wonders "rustolum" I have spray painted a few. I refuse to do it to any of my pretty turkey guns. They will stay a deep bluing high gloss and still kill birds with them. Not sure what it would cost on a 301 to have cerecoted but it is a very inexpensive gun. Could you buy 2 for the price you get it cerecoted?

It’s your gun, do whatever you want to do! I was asked one time if I could have any turkey gun to hunt with the rest of my life what would it be? I answered, a James Purdey 20 bore side by side. English stock. Single selective trigger, 24” barrels choked 570 in the left 555 in the right. Regulated with 1.625 tss loads. Express sights, Weighing exactly 6lbs. Ceracoted Vietnam tiger stripe!!!!

Check out the dura coat aerosol. I think that’s what I’m gonna do my 301t 20 in when I can decide what color will go with the realtree timber sticks

Rattle can job. Old Winchester 37a squirrel gun. I am happy with it. Hit it with heavy clear mat several coats. So far so good. Sure beats $ for cerokote and or a dip.
