Rios and Osceolas
Rios and Osceolas
Who do ya'll recommend as far as outfitters for Rio's (Tex or Ok) and Osceolas? Don't need a guided trip, but don't mind paying to play. Wanting to put together a Slam season in a few years. We have Easterns at home and I know where I want to go for a Merriam. Thanks

I can't recommend any specific outfitters for Rios, but the farther north you go, the less expensive it will be...or at least it seems that way. I would look to Kansas. It has some good public land, too. Save the cash for a good Osceola spot.

Oklahoma! Loaded with birds! Kansas was great too but a lot of areas with Easterns and hybrids and we wanted rios. The place we hunted we killed rios and hybrids. Good amount of birds and some damn biguns too. Oklahoma is a different ball game. It's like Texas just a lil different, not a feeder every 100 yards!

Re: Rios and Osceolas
Year after year the Osceola thing here in Florida gets more expensive. Outfitters are now paying ranchers 650 to 800 for a Gobbler. Outfitters are charging 2000+. I feel bad for out of staters and I would just apply to quota and special opportunity hunts every year until I got a permit. JMO because most hunters that want their slam just need the property not a guide.

I hunted with AA Outfitters this spring in Clarendon, TX. Hundreds of birds, great accomodations, great food.....Ken and Roseann Mayer are the owners and have excellent Rio leases. All private land!!!

South Central Neb. is pretty good for Rios
Re: Rios and Osceolas
I agree with Doug. I guide here in fl as well but ranchers are out of reach with bird prices. Some in excess of $1000 just in bird cost. I suggest putting in for quota hunts of find a small lease

If you want a Rio in Oklahoma you don't need an outfitter. Pm me and I'll show you where to go.

Ive taken 3 osceola's with Billy Henderson (Deep South Outfitters). Good guy with a lot of birds available.
Re: Rios and Osceolas
I hunted Rios in San Angelo Texas with Kenny mcCrea outdoors.
I hunted Osceolas in St. Cloud Florida with John Partan canoe creek outfitters
Both hunts were successful, first time out killed a bird. Didn't have to hunt the 3 days.
