Day 15 of the 2021 Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

At 08:00 this morning, there was a misty rain so I delayed going to “my” turkey woods & didn’t get set up until
10:30 with the temp at 66, overcast, & calm. I took my rain jacket along as off & on rain was predicted all day.
(It didn’t since I had my rain gear. If not, it would have poured!!)

At 10:47, I spotted movement in a brush pile but I didn’t see what it was. At 10:58, a fox ran down a dead fall
& up on top of a limb sticking up from the deadfall. It was a nice, young female.

At 11:56, the sun started to peek out & the breeze picked up a little. At 12:55, a bushy ran up a tree along
the edge of the woods & into the leafy tops. At 13:27, a fox moved around in the brush pile but disappeared.
A few minutes later, I looked behind me to check another brush pile & saw a fox going up a tree. I figured the
1 I had been watching moved down the tree line. Or so I thought!!

At 13:46, I saw movement at the base of a tree along the edge in the same spot as the “other” squirrel but,
again, didn’t see what it was. Next thing I knew, it was moving towards me but put a tree between us & I
couldn’t see it. It jumped up on the deadfall, went up & sat on the same limb as the 1st & she met the same
demise at 13:48. I have killed 2 near the same spot but never the exact same spot. What are the odds?!

I headed in at 15:00 with a slight breeze, still overcast with a temp of 79.

Thx guys. Of the 8 this year, 6 were head shots, 1 went under the chin blowing up inside the rib cage,
& the other took out the front shoulders. The 2 were the 1st 2 of the season & I was a little rusty.
