Backpack Review

Post by CamoMan4025 »

So I purchased two bags to try out to take on my elk hunt in Montana this November. It's a 5 day hunt and we will be staying in a lodge, so I really only need a day pack and then one I can use in Virginia deer hunting. I bought the gun and bow pack from Cabela's. I have the bigger version of this pack and really like it. My stepson has the ALPS Crossfire and I looked at it and liked it also, so I ordered that from Amazon. I wore the Cabela's pack a couple times with about 15 lbs in it for about 4-5 miles. Once I received the ALPS pack, I loaded it with the same stuff I had in the Cabela's pack. The ALPS pack has a metal frame that runs down the back and then in the small of your back just above your belt line is a curved piece of metal about 4" wide. This metal frame allows for the pack to not set right up against your back; in turn allows air flow thru it. Well, the problem I had was the curved metal part on each side where it stopped. It was padded, but rubbed into my sides. OK, well my fat love handles! Maybe if I had a 34" waist or slimmer, it wouldn't have rubbed me. The Cabelas's pack had better padding and was a tad bit bigger, but not by much and that didn't sway my decision. I've worn the Cabela's pack several more times and it is still very comfortable. I trust in Cabela's brand and I believe it has a lifetime warranty.

I've put links to both packs below. I'm just giving you all my .02 if anyone is interested in this size pack. Also, they both pretty much had the same options as far as a gun boot, H2O compatible, etc.

Thanks,

Kevin

I don’t need that big of a pack. But that Cabela pack is very nice. I like the rain guard

We are going to be in the north eastern section close to Idaho. It's unit 122 & 124. We are flying into Missoula and I believe we are about an hour from there.
