Interesting that your .585 has a hotter core than the .575 you posted. I tried the .585 ported in my Affinity and it did 287 in the 10" and 201 in the 20". The factory .593 that came with the gun did 287/231. Both looked very similar to your .585 pattern. I ended up going with a Franchi extended non-ported .600, which I really like. Your .575 pattern looks awesome with a perfect 50/50 split in my opinion.

It is amazing how every gun has its own favorite choke and ammo combo, even in the same make and model. My friend tried these chokes in his Stoeger 3020 while we were testing and his factory turkey choke gave it the best pattern (which I also saw in my Stoeger in the past).

Each gun having it's own favorite combo is not what surprises me, it's the tightness of the .585 patterns. This was mine at 20 yards with Apex 9's, and the reason I'm not using it and went to a .600

Is the choke marked incorrectly? I don't think my .555 is that tight at 20?

It was odd to me as well. From the chokes I've tried, my Affinity just seems to consistently throw extremely tight patterns. I had a .585 in my 870 last year that wasn't near as tight as this Affinity. The .593 that came with my Affinity was pretty darn tight too. Here's the Franchi .600 non-ported black extended choke at 20 and 40, and what I'll likely stick with this year if I keep the gun. Personally I like a little forgiveness and all of my birds are typically over decoys, so I'm not counting 10" circle numbers at 40, I'm just looking for a nice forgiving hunting pattern from 20 to 40. Even this .600 surprised me a little at 20.
I may end up selling this gun though. I shot it about 8 times and it's sat in the safe since I got my 28ga.

Here was mine at 40 with the ported 585. I don't dislike it at all, but I did not like the 20yd baseball sized pattern. Purely personal preference, but I find it way too easy to miss the close birds with patterns that tight, even with a red dot. Sorry for hijacking your thread OP.

No worries, cool to see other patterns from the same or similar guns in one read!

The reason I don't sight in much at 20 or 30 yds id simply because I prefer to shoot as soon as they hit the 40 yard mark. I rarely hunt where I have to shoot closer, so that has worked well for me. I have taken one at 4 steps (cut off most of his beard and the wad lodged in his body), and many at 20ish, but only in unusual circumstances. I also only use red dots, so I am confident in shot placement when they do force a close shot.

I'm the opposite, and I pay as much attention to the 20yd pattern as I do the 40, if not more. That's simply because I hunt over decoys and 99% of my shots are inside 25 yards. I'm actually probably going to sell this gun, as I've grown extremely fond of my new 28ga and the 410's I have and all my shots are so close.
It's definitely cool to see other people's choke/gun/shell combos and patterns though.

Bwhana ,
That is MY optimal pattern there on the first post . That is for Middle Georgia and central Florida. A 280 to 300 in the 10 and 200 to 230 in the 20 will get it done way farther than I am willing to shoot at one . That's what my 1187 does almost exactly , and it's a straight bead gun with an adjustable comb . I shoot doves and ducks with it and it shoots erry thing I load in it to the bead ! Crazy but she does .
My latest 2 guns have been optics setups .
The m2 run a lil bigger numbers this year than previously . 320 and 220 , maybe Crash just cleaned it last year after season and and I did right before I shot it to check it opening morning .
But the only one to step in front of it was at 18 yds and it looked like a pollen storm when I pulled the trigger . Feathers and blood spray in the afternoon Sun almost made me ashamed...

Now for out west the hottest 10 I can get is my plan and shoot him as soon as he breaks 50 ! If I'm under time constraints it's a different ballgame for me . At home I can hunt him tomorrow or next Wednesday it's not as big a deal as out of state .
But I'm with you on the sub gauges.. I've killed 12 with the 410 and have a 28 ga on order . Pushing close to 50 on the 20 Ga , and only hunted the 1187 and the newest m2 because I only had 2 gobblers on my places this year and wasn't going to squander and opportunities!

Very good patterns you have there. Have you ever thought about trying to shoot Foxtrot or hand loads threw the .585 trulock?
Wasn't born, I was hatched!!!!!!!!!!!! and raised in Tennessee.

I wanted to try Foxtrot many times in the past several years, but I could never find it in stock when I was buying (I only buy in off season when demand should be low?). I have a ton of Apex and have had such good results with it, I've stopped trying other brands.
