I bought some federal TSS, some rounds would rattle like a maraca. I went back to reloading after that.

For what they cost they should be flawless.

It wasn't federal but if they rattle is that an issue?

How bad is the rattle? There will always be a bit of movement, but you shouldn't have shot rolling around. It should feel like the shot is packed tight when you shake it, it shouldn't feel like there is room inside.

What shells are they?

Without actually seeing them, it's hard to say for sure, but that is probably ok as long as it's nothing crazy.

Honestly it could simply be that the particular load, wad, etc... doesn't agree with your choke and barrel harmonics.

Sounds familiar. Grew tired of chasing lot numbers with Hevi.

On the handloaded TSS train now. The Hevi and the single shot 12 gauge are the backup gun.

Only way to get handload consistency is to handload. None of my shells rattle...ever.

Have to agree with what the fellas have said, Loading your own the quality control is 100% on every shell. Nothing inconsistent and no worry about having to find ammo.

I bought some 20ga Federal tss a few years ago. Patterns were good but inconsistent.
Noticed excessive rattle and powder migration, some 1/3 of the way up the wad.
This will be my 3rd year hand loading, and after finding the right combination my patterns
are very consistent.
I cut open the Federals to rob the shot from them and found the #9 shot size to vary quite a bit from lot to lot#.
Some were 344/oz, 333/oz. and 360/oz. That right there can make big difference in your 10 inch ring count with a 1 5/8oz load. I will only hand load now.

Rogue...by no means am I running any company down this very well could be my gun or choke just wondering if I should be seeing that much variation and also from 40-50 yards a very big drop off thought the pattern would hold together a little better than that

I have found when shells are inconsistent it is a wad issue most times. Either they are not slit uniformly or the little tabs that hold some of the wad petals together on some of the "pre-slit" wads are left intact when loaded instead of separating them. Sometimes those tabs break uniformly upon firing and sometimes they do not. When they do not patterns become inconsistent.

Yep

And I have to add I’ve seen that rouge ammo not have correct roll crimps. Some have been loose with the osc sliding around

Inconsistent loading techniques will show variations in patterns

Wow, those do look shallow and weak. That’s a factory load?
I roll mine down deeper than that with no rattle. Shot to shot
consistency is good. Took awhile to find the right combination,
but very happy with the end result.

I would guess pressure will be very inconsistent and low on those. That is a very shallow crimp and not rolled the whole way over

Makes sense...I dont reload so i didn't know the crimp being perfect was that crucial. Guess it's time for a new brand or learn to reload

I can’t believe an ammo company would sell such shoddy work.
