Congrats Hal! you are off to a great start again! I feel guilty shooting them with a 12 gauge.

It's a bolt action that his grandfather gave him. Very old gun. He didn't know what it was, and I didn't look at it closely.Shooter wrote:Congrats to Lane and all you guy's.

The 410 with the 13/16 oz. Load of 9's is turning out to be quite the turkey slayer....
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
I looked at an 870 410 today. $450. Not in my zone at that price.

Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
I have noticed the same thing about the 870 express 410 lately. Finding them is getting harder since remington discontinued them a while back. They are getting harder to locate and the ones that have them are very proud of them judging by the price tag. However, they still show the wingmaster in production, but it definitely has no advantages over the express in the turkey woods.

I love these little popguns! "Dont you know you cant kill a turkey with that!" The older I get the more fun it is to pack a little popper after "rolling my own". It's sort of like flyfishing with a fly you tied yourself using hair from a deer you killed!

Here's another CZ 28 gauge turkey from Saturday.
As gobbling time came and went, nothing. So, I decided to go down to the corner of a field near a creek and see if I could jerk a gobble out of something there. And sure enough, one gobbled about 80 yds away off the corner of the field. So, I slipped inside the woods and sat down. To make a long story short, I never got one to respond, and after a while I got the feeling they were gone. So I eased up to where I could see out in the field, and sure enough there was a fan out in the high grass 100 yds away. I called softly to see the reaction, and a second white head popped up. Then the strutter turned and started going directly away from me. At that point I knew there were two toms, and that they were following a crotchety hen. So, I swung around and called a little more for little while, but they vanished.
At this point I went down to the opposite end of the field to walk back on the road. And sure enough, there were their freshly made tracks. The hen had pulled them clear opposite of wherever I was calling from. So I followed the tracks down the road, and started calling. And one answered me. So, I got in the woods and made haste to cut the distance, calling as I came. And they both started gobbling at me. When I got close enough, I sat down and tried to draw them into the woods to me. The turned around and came back towards me, but were hesitant to come into the woods. It took about 15 minutes to get them to work down the road (the hen had disappeared by now) about 30 yds to where I had a good shot 35 or so yards away. The 2nd bird took off flying at the shot, and came right over my head in the pines -- it's a good thing for him that he lives in NC instead of GA or SC....

Last day of the season on public land for turkeybuster. 11 3/4" beard, 1 5/8" spurs, 19 lbs. Shot with Mossy 500 .410 at 33 yards with 13/16 oz. of TSS 9's. Bird had 4 #2 nickle-plated shot in breast, wing and thigh joint. All face S.E. Ga, and on your knees chant in unison: "we are not worthy"...
