Hard season
Hard season
But worth it in the end. I know that I had posted earlier in the year about joining a new club, that was almost a complete disaster. The evening before opening day, my son and I go to roost a bird. I dropped him off in one area and I went to another. I am listening in this spot and then I hear music getting louder by the moment, a few minutes later 2 bozos in their jacked up 4x4s came screaming right through the area. When they stopped I got an attitude from them and gave it back in turn. Luckily, my son roosted a bird and we were able to get him right off the roost the next morning. After his bird, we made a few more setups and then I struck a bird at 11am. He was a little ways off and we decided to move and cut the distance. Moved a few hundred yards and got him to respond again. He was still a little far off and we were going to move again, when all of a sudden, a guy and his wife came riding down the road in their UTV, spooking that bird. Next morning, we were set up in that same vicinity when another guy comes riding right through our setup at 8am . Couldn't get him to stop. So we find a couple of birds on the other side of the property and decide to hunt them the next morning. I don't use decoys a lot, but this was a powerline and I figured it might help. Sure did, here comes that same freakin jackwagon from the morning before driving right through my decoys I threw my chair and tried to get him to stop to no avail, probably a good thing as I had murder in my heart by that time. Finally got in touch with the president and told him to pass the word what my future actions would consist of if this continued. Enough about the early season. My son turned 25 on April 6 and I took him to south Texas for his first Rio hunt. Had an amazing time and got his first Rio on video. We wound up taking 5 birds while out there, one of which I should have mounted ( still kicking myself for not doing so). Come back to GA and it got tough for a few weeks, but then a switched flipped and it was on. I killed two birds, had another at 20yds and couldn't get a clear shot on him. Brought my son in there and called the bird up for him that Saturday. The trumpet ruled my season as I was able to use 2 different trumpets to call up 9 birds, 4 of which that met their demise. The copper was another that really worked well, especially in Texas.
Re: Hard season
One interesting thing, the smallest spurs I got this year were 1 3/16, the other 3 all had 1.25 spurs.

Congratulations on a nice rescue of your season Lee. Too bad about the fools crashing your party. I can't imagine how mad I'd be.

Tim is a great guy, really enjoyed talking to him on the phone and exchanging texts. Hope to put a face to the name next year in Nashville.

Re: Hard season
Way to go Lee for making it a successful season.
As for those jack legs, why not call some of your old pals in LE and have them locked up for disturbing the peace......your peace of mind that is.

Re: Hard season
You know me well enough. I finally got in touch with the president and told him they would not appreciate me doing this to them during deer season, I expect the same. And tell the next person that thinks they want to try this, I will shoot the tires out on their vehicle and when they get out of the truck, I will beat them to deathShellwaster wrote: ↑May 24th, 2018, 6:28 am Way to go Lee for making it a successful season.

My Toughest season also in New York and New Jersey. Not much Gobbling on most days-- sometimes just 1 Gobble from 1 bird. Public land is tough for sure. I did manage to take 1 NY Gobbler.
