4 in a line!!
4 in a line!!
Well members-last Spring at Stewart State Forest in New York---I was about ready to leave when 4 turkey hunters walked out of a field and moved accross the parking lot and walked down a trail towards some wetlands. That is one big hunting party!! Who gets to shoot if just one tom comes in??! They walked in a perfect line too. Sometimes 2 is a crowd-LOL! Any members here ever see 4 guys hunting together?

4 in a line!!
We've done it a few times. It's tough depending on who you are hunting with and where.

Stewart State Forest in Orange County New York does get hit hard! 7000 gated public acres---thats why! I might see those same 4 guys this early May.

4 in a line!!
I hunted in a group of 3 several times. The main shooter was decided before hand and put out front other two covered the far sides.

I've been involved in a couple goat ropen's. Usually just turns into hiking with weapons.

4 in a line!!
Three is the absolute most when I hunt in NY. The caller would be in the middle and in the back of the V formation.
Re: 4 in a line!!
I once saw 2 trucks and at least 5 Spring hunters arrive together. They were trying out box calls in the dark parking lot. Horrible sound! I bet they all hunted together.

I've seen groups of 5 together over in the black kettle! Most pressure piece of land I've ever seen! Run into groups of ppl where there aren't even vehicles parked!!! Must be huge groups dropping each other off. Never seen anything like it

Actually quite a bit. We have a few couples we hunt with sometimes and we'll all go out together and have 4.

Re: 4 in a line!!
I much prefer to hunt alone although had a hunting partner much of this past season, a good friend of mine, who has had some health issues as of late. He loves to turkey hunt and his wife told him the only way he could hunt is if he hunted with somebody, that somebody was me most of the season but we had a blast and put a nice dent in the turkey population.
Re: 4 in a line!!
I have found that 4 guns is the minimum number for a dove shoot on a field we once shot. For my turkey hunting, it's 3 too many. Gil
Re: 4 in a line!!
I took a friend out once he shot the bird and was happy, it was his first,, he is in the fertilizer business and in the spring he has no days off. It was raining the day before and too muddy to be out so he went with me. Hasn't been able to go again. That was the year and a week later i shot the 21 pounder with a huge fan. Oh well I prefer going alone but I have another guy ,75 yrs. old, I will take out this fall season as I already filled my yearly one tag for this area.
I was not his father but he was my son,,MAK IV, 10-15-1993 - 4-22-2007

Re: 4 in a line!!
I have been in spring camps where there have been up to 8 hunters but no more than 2 went to any 1 area
with the exception of a father with kids.
Now fall hunting is a whole nuther story!

Re: 4 in a line!!
I have hunted with 5 before, but it was private at Turkey camp, and we split up with everyone hunting by themselves.
Re: 4 in a line!!
I got to thinking about this. They may have been getting ready for a turkey drive.

Re: 4 in a line!!
I have hunted as a group of 3 many times. Usually me and my son with someone who hasn't killed a bird before. Rules are always the same. It is predetermined the new hunter has the first shot if one bird comes in. If two or more birds come in the one on the left shoots the one on the left; the one on the right shoots the one on the right. The farthest away bird gets shot first.
I really enjoy taking kids that my not otherwise get to go hunting.

I've hunted with up to 5 in a group. The most I ever hunted with in one group, and killed a turkey, was 4. It complicates things to try and get everybody still.... But I prefer to hunt alone.
