Need advise on 870 youth build

Post by Fl strutter »

I'm building a 870 youth 20 gauge and would like some advise. What's y'alls opinions on sights or scopes? I know I'm gonna have to get it drilled and tapped but not sure what do do. I prefer scopes to red dots but they do add more weight. What are the better red dots y'all have used? I already have a Indian creek 562 and a white shot stock ordereed. Also not sure on which load to try thru it I have several recipes but not trying to get it done this season. Thanks for any advice.

Get you a Burris Speed Bead mount to put that FF III on and you won't have to drill & tap it, with that SB mount the sight sits low enough you can sight right down your rib and use your bead if you want to.

I have a vortex venom/sumtoy base/sight protector setup on my 870 youth and love it.

Pretty sure the speed bead won't work on 20 ga. That's what I've read anyway. Mine is drilled

It might not work without being modified, I did see where a guy had a Speed Bead on a 870 Express 410 but it was probably modified. I modified one a few months ago for my TriStar Viper G2 28 ga. and it worked out great.

So my best bet will be the ff sight. Should I send to sumtoy and let him put his base on it and drill and tap?

They both are excellent red dots. Just look for a killer deal on either

Does sumtoy do mounts for both? I've heard his Burris mount is top notch.

I seen where a guy on one of the facebook turkey hunting pages said that Optics Planet has them on fleabay with a best offer option, he offered 175.00 and they accepted it (with free shipping). You used to be able to buy the FF III for 170.00 + free shipping about any day of the week, no more.

Best deal I found just gotta ship off to sumtoy for tap and mount. Should have everything time I get it back. Then gotta figure out which load I wanna shoot.

That's a good deal. I've never used eBay or had an account. I figured 206 was pretty good at last moment. Do y'all loctite all screws on them and mount? Also how tight should it all be?

I have a truglo gobble stopper scope. It is a red dot more or less. I have not liked red dots in low light because the dot is so bright I can’t see the target. This one will get very dim and works well in low light. That said the Burris FF is nice but cost more.

Gonna be shooting tommys 90 93 in my youth 870. Straight 9s and maybe try 8.5s. I like Indian creek chokes and have a 562 to try first. If I was going to order another to pattern also which constriction would y'all recommend. I'm hoping for 290-300 on the 10 but also want a even 20 with 220 or more preferably. Thanks
