How many QUITTERS are here.

Post by OLE RASPY »

I need some inspiration. Lol I quit dipping 1week before Christmas so little over a month ago. It sure is hard. Real damn hard. I mean it’s real real hard. Lol. I’ve been dippin for 24 years. I want one every day but I haven’t broke down yet. I’m gonna do this. It’s just hard. I know it’s mental.

Nothing to it... I’ve quit several dozen times. Usually permanently.

Seriously, key was finding something that meant more to me. Tobacco free now for >1.5 years. The nicotine receptors will fade steadily if you can just resist the urge for a “big fatty.” Take it a day, hour or minute at a time. Whatever it takes.

I quit the first day of trout season two years ago. It was time to quit. My son was 12 years old and I didn't want him to think it was ok to chew. It cost way too much. A nice rifle or shotgun or two a year! It will quite possibly cause cancer and or tooth problems. It was starting to give me alot of heartburn. YOU just have to decide if YOU want to quit or not. IF YOU WANT TO QUIT YOU CAN!!!! It is a nasty habit too!
And I used to grow Burley Tobacco.
You can do it!

My granddad started me chewing tobacco when I was 1 1/2 years old, now I'm not talking about Mail Pouch or Levi Garrett I'm talking about plug tobacco that he grew and twisted and I'm telling you it was harsh. I chewed until I was about 13 and snuff got popular so I switched to it, dipped Skoal for years and years until one day I stopped at a gas station for a can and it was 4.75 and I decided I had to find something cheaper so I changed brands. I still use snuff to this day and yes it is a disgusting habit, I quit once back in the 80's for a month but then I was right back at it again, the way I look at it is a person has to have 1 bad habit and I did quit drinking.

I chewed a can of Copenhagen every day for 10 years. Quit close to 30 years ago. It was a bitch!
Tougher than quitting smoking, which I did for 10 years previous to starting to chew. The snuff was way harder to quit than the smokes. It can be done. You just have to want to quit or it won’t happen. Hang in there Raspy.
It’s costly and really can kill you! Keep that in mind and it may help you lose the urge use again. It gets easier every day.
Good luck, my friend!!

I quit for over a year about 4 years ago. Then I got a dip one day on the golf course after a few beers. That was all it took to be right back on the wagon. That being said, ive decided to quit again. I haven't had one in one week and about 3 hours now, so your post was good to read tonight. Stay strong brother!

I hate this post. Lol Nobody would believe how much I dip..it's honestly embarrassing.. It seems like every time I go to quit God makes me jump a hurdle in life and I cant. I hate to say I love it, I cannot imagine pooping without a dip, driving, shower or having one for dessert after supper.

One thing I'll throw out there, my dad quit smoking after 47 years. Hes the ultimate curmudgeon, I kept seeing using stevia liquid for nicotine cravings, a natural sweetener available anywhere. Bought him some, It was his saving grace, he actually said it worked. My dad and I have a relationship where we'll say two words sitting in a room all day and he thanked me.

I tried chantix years ago. I hate drugs will hardly take Ibuprofen. **** freaked me out, no one wanted to be around me I was so irritable and saw purple pandas Kung foo fighting with unicorns in my sleep. It flipped me out.

I promised sal I'd try again. But biggest thing is convincing myself I want to. For inspiration raspy, inspire the rest of us, your over the hump.

I quit about 10 yrs ago,was one of the hardest things I've done. I chewed on birds seed trying to help me get my mind off the snuff. I have never fell off the wagon but the urge to dip occasionally is still there for some reason but i know i will never do it again. A couple reasons i quit were cost of a can and my gums were pulling away from my teeth. I met a dude one day that had mouth gotten mouth cancer and had to have his lower jaw removed and that fool was still dipping buy putting it in his top lip.

I quit smoking cigars the last day of duck season, 1/30/1999, 19 years ago today. I really enjoyed cigars and had gotten to the point that I inhaled them. I never smoked in the house and always carried a change of clothes so I could take my suit off, place it in a clothes bag, and smoke in the car. Within 2 months after quitting I could really tell a change in my breathing and lung capacity and it made a significant difference during turkey season, and it was one more thing not to have to worry about and fuss with. For a number of years I was the medical sales representative for a FDA product line of medical implants which included facial and mandibular implants calling on among others Maxillofacial Reconstructive Surgeons. I saw and worked on numerous cases which were the direct result of chewing tobacco and snuff and the resultant cancers, tissue opacity, and the deterioration of the jaw and soft tissues requiring reconstruction and implants. Due to what I've seen and experienced, I'm constantly on one of my younger turkey hunting friends to quit dipping, it's just not worth the potential risk and damage. Get Wintermint sugarfree chewing gum and chew gum when you get the urge to chew or dip.

Stopped dipping Copenhagen on Sept 13, 2013. If you look back, it was a Friday. Had a bad accident, on my ATV, at the hunting lease. While I was in the hospital, my wife decided it was a good time for me to stop. Haven't had a dip in 4.5 years, but I sure think about it. Hang in there and buy lots of gum.

I didn't really start til college. But kinda funny, first dip. Junior year high school, in locker room after football practice.

Buddy tosses me a tin of cope snuff. I **** you not, the minute I had it in my hands, coach walks in. I'm like you gotta be kidding me and butts puckered as tobacco was a 2 game suspension. He goes "Byle I never wanna see you with chew again" and walked away

I had a friend that quit chewing baccy and he bought a box of whole cloves and would suck on a couple of those, claims he had fresh breath and they killed the urge for a chew of tobacco.

It is a HARD road to walk from what i have seen.

My mom killed herself w/tobacco. Life long smoker. In the end, never mind her lung cancer, she was recovering in the hospital from having had part of her jaw and most of her tongue cut out (tumors) and she had my sister help her outside to smoke. That is messed up. That my friends is a powerfully addictive substance. She died very soon thereafter, never left the hospital alive.

Not 3 days ago i learned that uncle bobby has stage 4 in many major organs and also spine. Life long smoker. He is in insane amounts of pain and probably won’t last the month.

I relate these horrors to you because you have asked for inspiration. How about staying alive and healthy for your family and friends. If not that, how about staying healthy so you can chase many years more of gobblers!

Bravo to those who have quit and to those who aspire to quit. If you can do it, you are a hero!

I started chewing tobacco in 1975 when I worked in the trap houses loading clay birds onto throwers at the gun club when I was 14 years old. One of the regular members offered me some Red Man because he thought I couldn't handle it and he wanted to see me puke. Well, I could handle it and I got to where I carried my own. I also started smoking, but not nearly as much as I chewed. I tried to quit several times and right when it seemed like I'd get over the hump, then somebody would offer me a pouch, plug, or twist and I'd start back up again. The habit cost me a couple of molars and a girlfriend before I wised up in 1988. I gave it up and have been tobacco-free ever since.
