New Old addition. (POA / POI pic added)

Post by Toddmann »

Picked up a 1957 J.C. Higgins O/U 16 gauge yesterday. It has double triggers and shoulders very well. Hopefully both barrels will shoot straight and I'll have one more to chase them with next spring.

I have killed plenty of birds, ducks and geese with the 16 gauge, good find, I hope you raise hell with the turkeys with it

Beautiful gun. My old 16 shoots 9.5 TSS, really well. It has 2 9/16 chamber, so hand rolling works great. Enjoy your piece of history.

I'm thinking TSS #9 top barrel for those 40.5 shots and High brass lead #7.5 bottom barrel for the closer encounters.

Awesome find Todd!!! Have you shot it to see how well the barrels are regulated? Just something special about turkey hunting with a 16ga!!!

Not yet but I plan on it real soon. I have a Savage 94b single 16ga I hunt with and that full barrel has an outstanding pattern @ 40.5 with TSS #9.

Did Marlin make that gun for JC Higgins? High Standard made pumps and a revolver for Sears. Gil

20 yard shots using Rem LRE #6 shot. Top barrel looks to be fine. Its a little high aiming dead on blue mark but I aim where the feathers meet the waddle. The bottom barrel center of pattern is left. Gonna try some #7.5 High brass loads later on to see if that helps. Any other suggestions for bottom barrel? Really do not want to add sights since top barrel is good.

3 shots. All 3 were center left. Will definitely try at 40 with actual hunting ammo.

If the pattern remains to the left and that barrel has a enough choke to start with, the old school approach would be to ream the choke out in the direction you wanted to move the pattern and open the pattern up at the same time.

    Definitely do it this way.

I was going to suggest a hammer and torch :violent3:

Cool find, first gun Dad gave me was an old JC Higgins 12 gauge pump. Still have that gun, lots of memories. Stays in the case these days.

    Nice Gun!
I'm going to try some old Copper brass Mohawks in 7.5s for close barrel and TSS 9.5s in top barrel in my 16 this year as well. Good luck and let us know how poi and patterns are.

Thanks. Hope I don't have to resort to this.
