Her dad is a really good turkey hunter, but was skeptical of the 40 yd .410 shots. Gun shoots 135/ 10" at 40, so I told him it was good to 40, and a few steps farther. Glad he trusts me.GLS wrote: . . . she is a wee lass with a big smile. She makes that four tenner look like a 10 gauge. Quite a shot, 42 yards, but that load will do it. Gil

Yes sir, sure is....thanks! The rear peep/ghost, is made by Skinner sights, the front post is made by Marbles gun sights.

How'd ya know? The Rio was actually right at 78 of my 2 year old sons steps. In big boy steps, it came out to 37-38 yards. Not sure on the Eastern. I'm a flatlander, and I shot him at a very steep incline for my area. I think he may have been a bit further....but he wasn't far enough to escape the wrath.GLS wrote:Clay, don't be bashful. Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Is that a 20" barrel, Gil?
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
22". Gil
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Gotcha! Just noticed the recoil pad and brass. Awesome!
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Now that is a perfect youth turkey setup right there. I never thought I would see the day that a .410 was printing 165 pellets in the 10" with pellets that can kill a turkey out to 40 yards. Amazing. Looks like you had the barrel cut down. Did Sumtoy do the work to cut and rethread the barrel or someone else?
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Sumtoy, as noted above, cut the barrel to 22", threaded and choked it. I dunno who did the pad, but it doesn't quite fit, but does the job. My buddy noted he did it because "it kicks like a mule" to which I replied, but carries like a sparrow. Gil
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Is he shooting brass hulls?
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Yes, empty hull is visible across the bird's wattles. Gil
Re: 28 ga. & .410 turkeys
Gil-- Any chance your friend would be willing to run a 13/16oz. plastic hull load through the gun for comparison? I have a 25" .410 Yildiz currently with William, and I loaded 10 shells (13/16oz. Hal load) to test the gun with. The goal was to figure out what length barrel/choke is optimal, and I'm exceptionally interested in understanding the variance in performance between a brass and plastic hull out of that 22" barrel. If my 25"' gun shoots plastic hull loads and delivers ~120 in a 10" @ 40 yards while your buddies 22" gun shoots ~140 with a plastic hull, I can assure you I'd be asking William to cut the barrel down before mailing it home. He's welcome to shoot from the batch of shells I sent William if he's local to the shop. -Keith
