March 20th: 1/2 a Single Season Grand Slam today
Had a great morning near Gainesville, FL this morning; had quite the duel with a bird for most of an hour. He finally gave up, came in on a sprint until I cut at him at 12 yards. I got my second Osceola of the season and finished my 17th Grand Slam on an awesome hunt in a gorgeous palmetto covered hardwood bottom........
Instead of hanging out and relaxing, I decided I wanted to try to catch a quick afternoon hunt on the South Carolina opener as work duties will be keeping me out of the woods more than I like for most of the next two weeks. I loaded my truck, but ice on my bird and I headed up I-95 for a 5 hour drive while working from my iphone. I sat down in a spot that I saw a longbeard during deer season on the edge of some mature hardwoods and some pines. Two series of yelps from my Britt Oswald box call and I heard the crunching of leaves. 10 minutes after sitting down, I tagged a South Carolina Eastern. Needless to say, it was a good day.
Both birds together:

Great start young man !

Jason, when you reach a certain age, you will celebrate killing an Osceola with a nap and not a 5 hour drive to hunt the same day. Make hay while the sun shines. It tires me reading about it. 12 or 20 gauge? Gil

Ha Ha! I was using a well worn 870 12ga I picked up. It's about a 25 year old gun and the previous owner had some good use out of it as the action is as smooth as I have ever seen on an 870.GLS wrote:Jason, when you reach a certain age, you will celebrate killing an Osceola with a nap and not a 5 hour drive to hunt the same day. That is what it's all about Hart, I like how you roll. I can relate to your get up and go......as soon as I shoot one, I want to go hunt for and shoot another. The adrenaline that turkey hunting gives me is like no other. Congrats again on your success, and thanks for sharing with us.
