I actually bought a jake pot to help figure out how to call the things in on purpose. I think targeting and calling up specific jakes on purpose like we do gobblers is an unexplored challenge. I usually have a good idea what a mature gobbler will do, but jakes just make no sense to me.

The only time I shoot a jake is if get them mixed up on the limb. Sometimes all the other tree limbs make it hard to see the beard length.

I personally do not shoot Jakes but would never force my beliefs on others as Gobbler is trying to do.. He is personally trying to turn turkey into deer hunting and the big buck mantra that has become so popular. People forcing their beliefs even through legislation because they do not possess the resources, skills, drive and knowledge to get it done under current conditions when others are and prove it each and every year. Instead of embracing the challenge of hunting mature birds/deer where few exist they try to dummy down the challenge to meet their current skill set.

I don't support the shooting of jakes. that being said. if I take a beginner hunting and they are happy with a jake, hey its their tag. I still like to call to them and listen to all the funny noises they make.

Well I'm gonna force my beliefs on yall!! If he makes you damn near have a heart attack as well as breathe heavy, quit breathing, heart beat out of your chest, skip several beats and just plain gets you excited, then I'm a proponent of blowing his head off!! It's been a few years since I shot one but I haven't been tempted by one either. And it will depend on the situation, if I'm feeling froggy I just may jump! Shoot what makes you happy, and if it happens to be a jake, don't make excuses, accept your kill and be happy!

Have not shot a jake in quite a long time. Have no plans on doing it any time soon, but not gonna say it won't happen.

I have taken a pile of 1st time hunters from kids to macho guys.. I tell them you can shoot whatever you want including a jake.. The macho men and even the kids "I am not shooting a stupid jake".. Countless times on these hunts, low and behold strike a jake, jake comes in pounding... Most times you hear the safety click and Bang.. "I just couldnt take it, that was so awesome".. LOL

I cannot understand how folks like gobbler want to take this away from folks to serve themselves :dontknow:
