closest I've ever called one in without killing him

Was out this weekend and prospecting along, and around mid morning worked my way over to a big creek to see if I could cross it. I saw that I could and called a few times before I dropped down to cross. It took about 1-1/2 minute, when I was about in the middle of the creek with my gun strapped on my back, when I heard a big commotion behind me up on the bank I'd just come down into the creek from. I thought it was a deer running down to cross the creek, so I turned around only to see a jake had come right up to where I had just been calling, he saw me, and was taking off to fly on across the creek. He got to about 5 yds from me, and was a fortunate fella in his timing....

I'd been calling for the past 3 hours, ready to kill any bird at any moment the whole time - except for about a 30 second window. He was a very fortunate fowl.
