Turkey Dogg'n - As easy As shooting Fish in A Barrel!

Post by gblrsrst »

That is the most common Misconception we hear!

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Let me tell you that sometimes you have to WORK FOR THEM!

Rob contacted me to hunt with two callmakers from Pa on Friday. We set to meet over coffee at Gobbler's Roost at 7 in the morning! This is one NICE Thing about Turkey Dogg'n -- LET THE TURKEYS WAKE UP AND GET ON THE GROUND! We can Sleep In!

7:30 arrives and so does the Crew .. Gage and Josey and the Boys!

They are ALL Excited -- 7-10 turkeys Entering the corn field about 100 yards from cabin are put back in the woods by their truck! EASY/PEAZY!

We let them go and hope they go to a spot we can break them that is Huntable! As it turns out they must have turned Right and went towards the Neighbors pen of Tame Turkeys and we needed to find OTHER TURKEYS!

So to the next spot we go! Hear we saw a Little OLD Scratching but were not able to locate Fresh Turkey sign after about a Mile Walk!

To the Next Spot on State Land! LONG WALK of 2 miles and NO FRESH SIGN AT ALL! As it turned out we walked all the way to one of my FAVORITE SPOTS -- "The HONEY HOLE"!

We need a Ride to get our trucks so I placed a call to my son who had just scored a Buck with Bow and Arrow! He came right down and got us as he wanted HELP Hanging the Deer! NICE WHEN A LONG WALK CAN BE ELIMINATED!

Trucks recovered US AND DOGS RESTED!

Back to "Honey Hole"! LOTS OF OLD SIGN -- NO FRESH!!

Late Lunch Time at The Roost!

Squirrel Cacciatore From George and Sandwiches! YUM! YUM!

Bellies Full and then it's HUNTING STORIES as the weather changed a bit toward Rain!

Eyes kept out for turkeys traveling the Fields in front of Cabin!

It becomes late afternoon and it looks like we have been skunked as the Boys and Dogs leave!

I'm picking up and WONDER -- "When will I get a Call as they are driving past the Corn field that it is FULL of Turkey?"

NO CRAP -- The phone Goes Off and they Ask if they can do a Late Break?

NO DUH!! OF COURSE!

Break is LOUD AND PROUD!!!

Gage and Josey Just Hammering it! Turkeys Clucking Putting and Flying Everywhere!

Perfect Set-up for One Of Two Things to happen!

1. It's late and the Turkeys will decide to STAY IN THE TREES!

2. They will be Totally Susceptible to AGGRESSIVE CALLING and Run the Hunters Down!

#2!

OMG --the Boys Just Poured it on and within 15 Minutes the First Bird was Down!

10 Minutes latter -- The Second!

It's EASY! :turkeywave:

Every time I go out in the fall I am able to get on a flock but the hard part is trying to get in close enough to get a good break. Man if I had a dog to do the work I doubt there would be any turkeys left to hunt next year. :;)

Every once in awhile, it's easy. Most of the time, not so much. My legs are still sore.

Congrats on the double.

Ron ....and the DNRC has the nerve to say no turkeys, and cut the season by four weeks . What's next ? You fellows sure did have a good season, albeit short....
