2018 rifle season recap
2018 rifle season recap
Me and the wife debated on where to hunt opening weekend. It was either our farm in barren county, another farm in Logan county or our river bottoms in butler county. Well river bottoms in Butler was flooded so we decided Logan county. (I really wanted to hunt our farm in barren as I was after ole whitey) but she wanted to hunt Logan.
Opening morning found us perched in a stand over looking a big corn field. Buck came out at 6:05am. I grunted and he came to 50 yards. I knew he was a heavy horned 8. Told her to shoot him if she wanted him. She shot him. Second biggest buck she has killed. Right g3 was broke off. That evening I passed up 16 deer. Small bucks and does. They all put on a good show as I was perched in my 28’ ladder stand. Had deer all around me. Sunday morning she didn’t want to hunt so I went solo hunted same stand me and her hunted. Got a text around 7am from my brother asking if I could come help him get a 8 point out of the holler his wife killed. I was ready anyway cause I really wanted to be hunting my farm in barren county. Helped him with the buck and me and wife packed our stuff and headed home for a evening hunt for ole whitey. Hunted that evening without seeing him and hunted Monday morning without seeing him. Passed up a few other deer. So Monday bout 12 is when I got a text of ole whitey dead. What a bummer. He was shot Saturday morning opener early. It happens though. Didn’t hunt no more till that Friday. Didn’t see nothing Friday morning in barren. That evening it was back to Logan county corn field. Didn’t see nothing till 4:45pm. Saw a buck coming down fence row 100 yards out. Put rifle on him and it was a good eight point (so I thought). He made 2 scrapes within 10 yards apart. I grunted at him and he came to 30 yards looking. I said what the heck and shot him. He had a little ground shrinkage but I knew he wasn’t a booner. Ended up being a 7 point. Still happy with him.
So back to barren for the 2nd weekend. My wife killed a doe Saturday evening and I killed a doe Sunday evening. Her doe had white front feet.
I just got off work Monday evening (going on 3rd week)and wife text me she said I’m going hunting I said alright. I got home and about 4:45pm she text me said I just shot another doe. So I got in my truck went out there loaded it up and came home. Didn’t hunt no more till last weekend of rifle. We headed to butler county to our family river bottoms and I saw 3 does but they were far off and she had 3 small bucks come in by her was eating acorns behind her and they started knocking there antlers together sparring. She has never seen them do this before. That ended my rifle season. I cleaned four wheeler and put everything up Sunday morning that was mine. She said she wanted to hunt our farm this evening I said go ahead I’m not. I’m done. I’m ready to start hunting coyotes now. So she went and didn’t see a thing. It sure was a good season for us. Saw a lot of deer. Put 5 in the freezer between us.

Nice, congrats to you both! Well done.
White feet? I still think y'all hunt close to a goat farm.
