Well...

Post by Waddle Whacker »

he isn't a 170" midwestern giant, but he's a damn fine mature buck for my neck of the woods. I had this deer on camera for most of October and couldn't quite close the deal. I was on doe patrol when 3 really nice 3.5 year old 8 points came into the field. They kept looking back into the woods...I kinda hoped it was a herd of does. About 10 minutes later he popped out and started feeding. My initial thought, with the naked eye at 200 yards, was that he was a shooter, but I studied him for about 10 minutes anyway. I decided he was mature and let the 125 grain core lockt fly out of the 30-06 and he bit the dirt. He had 20" main beams, 10" g2's and was 16" wide....weighed 190. I'm happy with him...and the kids were pumped! After a tough bow season, fighting off the hogs(I killed 9) I couldn't be more pleased. I didn't figure a mature buck was in the cards for me this year.

Thanks guys! I finally decided to go ahead and bring him to the taxidermist. I was considering a Euro, but decided against it. I think he'll make a real pretty shoulder mount.
