Worth the wait.

Post by davisd9 »

Called Mr. Billy Buice right after the season ended to get a 5.5” trumpet from him. I have the 6” but after some friends raved over the 5.5” I had to try it. He said he did not have many built right now but an Ebony. He stated if I could wait he had some beautiful Desert Ironwood that would make a great hunting call. Sounded good to me. Well she finally arrived yesterday and I am very happy with the call. Worth the wait for sure. It is always a pleasure to converse with Mr. Billy! Thanks for the look!

sharp looking call, nice figured wood grain.
how do you like how it draws air compared to the standard one?

I like it a lot. Took a second to adjust as it is a faster rollover and you have to adjust your air draw to it. Personally I like the 5.5" better than the 6". He does seem to be hesitant to sell a 5.5" to someone that does not have his 6".

Brought this trumpet to work yesterday and played around with it all day. When I got home I decided to do a soundfile to see how she sounds in the woods. I plan to carry her with me this year!

I ordered this in late April and got it late July. He had plenty at Unicoi, 6" and 5.5". When I got mine all he had in 5.5" was a special order ebony that someone changed their mind on and was more than I wanted for a hunting call. My mind was pretty set on Desert Ironwood also, so if you are more open to what he has on hand you can probably have one on the way next week. Just have to call and ask. I have his number so PM if you want it. Thanks!
