Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
Ya'll don't get too excited just yet, but I just shot a bigger one than saturday.
Problem is, he is not in my possession yet. I ran an arrow through him at 20yds, and must have hit him a little back, cause he wobbled off limping pretty bad.
Some hens came by and he got up and went into the timber.
Figgered I better go home and come back later, instead of chasing him around!!
This is the dominant bird I've been after the whole time. I'm gonna be sick if I loose him!

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
That is why I will never hunt with a bow. My son years ago nailed a Tom with a good bow hit, and had to chase him down thru barb wire and thorns for 75 yards. He came back, shredded from the chase with the Tom, and the Tom had a hole thru him that looked like he got shot with a 30-30. Tough birds.Shooter wrote:Ya'll don't get too excited just yet, but I just shot a bigger one than saturday.

I take from no new pictures that your search was unsuccessful.

Nope, got lucky and found him this morn. Just had too many things to do today to make a post.
He turned out to be a little smaller than the other one.

I think you have probably wiped out most of the Tom's in your area.Shooter wrote:LOL, thought I'd take it a little easier on them this year!!

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
Just got back from our two-week foray. Tennessee kicked our butts,...just couldn't find any birds on the public lands we hunted (at least not many that didn't already have hunters on them). I hunted five days and got into birds on only one of them and couldn't seal the deal with those.
Texas was much better. Took two nice Rios in two days,...and could have killed two more if I had wanted to stack 'em up there.
Oklahoma was last, and although the hunting was tough, I passed on a couple of smaller gobblers and then managed to put a 4-bearder on the ground the last evening. Looks like he will score in the low 90's, so I should be able to contribute two birds at least with a mid-seventies average. Hope everyone else has good luck, as well.

Alrighty Jim, thats what I like to hear!!! Sorry your TN trip didn't work out.
If I can get lucky and pop one of those double or triple beards at my buds farm on Jack Daniels land, we should be in good shape for the season. I'm counting on Jay and the rest to kill some good ones too.

Me and Lily took a couple of low 60s birds on Friday afternoon.
Got a Double beard yesterday afternoon, but only scored 63".

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
Sounds like the old MeatPackers are rollin' again this year! Good to hear the teammates are whackin' and stackin'. I've been away a good deal since the 26th of March, so have not had a lot of time to be on or post. Leaving again in the morning early to try to find a Merriams somewhere in NM that will help out the team, but I doubt I will find one big enough. Keep knockin' 'em down teammates,...and stay safe!
...By the way, Tommy,...you have sold me on that TSS buddy! That sh!t will just flat slam their peckers in the dirt! ....Gonna have to place an order with you during the off-season!
A couple of pics of my OK gobbler...

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
Yep, that stuff is nasty. Your buddy in Bama used some this year too, but he thought they were for 20 yds and closer!!! So, I don't know if he's sold on them or not.
Geeeezzz Jim, I think everyone is gonna banish our azz from these contests. When 2 birds start out scoring other peoples 4 birds,.... well, they just ain't gonna put up with that!!!

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
BTW, did each of the two mains have completely enclosed sheaths??? If so, no argument.
Need to run that by Doug, and see what he thinks.
I'll pm him and tell him to look at the pic.
FYI,... I noticed that the sheaths on the two mains do not match. They are different lengths. Therefore, I would have to lean toward, different beards.

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
buddy and I doubled up on two year olds this morning. will take pics later.
Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
I put down a 2 year old, so far, and hopefully my beat up body recovers for next week in Iowa. 2 year old could have been 3, but who knows exactly. Scored 57.375.

Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
What ever happened to those big 70" Iowa birds??
Re: Kill/Hunt Stories
Kansas is my big bird state, where I have qualified 4 years in a row for a certificate honouring what they classify as a trophy. ALL my ground in Kansas was under a burn off driving the birds away. I just didn't know they were doing that or I would have went later. I was lucky to call one off unburned privateShooter wrote:What ever happened to those big 70" Iowa birds??
land to my public or I would have been skunked. I still have Iowa next week, but not positive because of a lack of land to hunt.
