Gun Oven Build

Post by ArkansasDon »

I built a gun oven to do bake on Teflon Moly Coatings.
I priced a gun curing oven to bake on Moly Coating for firearms & archery equipment, 2,200.00 for to purchase one so I fished around the inter-net and found a few that were built (DIY), seem simple enough. So I started , it took alittle over 40 day off & on, and wow, this thing is cool as dirt...........works like a champ. Here the list and what parts I put into it.
10ft wood stove door insulation (to insulate around door)
1-14 gun cabinet , totally gutted (latch, gun holders)
2-sheets of 1" thick 4'x10' AC Duct Board $120.00
1-Cuisinart Commerical Grade Stainless Steel Custom Classic Toaster Oven Broiler , fully taken apart for heating elements
1/2" all thread & nuts with 6 large S-Hooks(rod to hold gun barrels and parts)
1-Element Receptacle
1-Universal 110 Thermostat
2 4 gang-Box for motor switch, thermostat and main
1 2 gang metal box for thermostat
digital thermometer
BBQ 3 stem thermometer
2 l5” lengths ½ metal electrical on conduit
18ft white 10 ga. wire
5ft red 10 ga. wire
5ft blue 10ga. wire
10ft black 10ga. wire
5ft 16ga. white wire
various wire nuts
1 tube fire proof caulking
3 ft ¾” angle iron (metal legs)
small electric unverisal fan & motor (110v)( to circlulate hot air, wired to thermostat)12"x24" Sheet metal, for heat sheild for fan & motor)
2 door latchs for cabinet
Battery powered digital timer
total cost 400.00 to buy one from Brownell's, $2200.00

Very well done.

What temperatures are you looking to maintain inside the oven? Does it need to be vented to the outside to exhaust fumes?

I CAN GO FROM ZERO TO 450 IN 20 MINUTES AND HAVE A 3 DEGREE DIFFRENCE IN BOTTOM TO TOP. NO ITS NOT VENTED. YOU WANT IT TO MAINTANE EVEN BAKING TEMP WITH LITTLE WORK. THE OUTSIDE HEATS UP TO 65 DEGREES. ITS WELL INSULATED.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that
