Paracord Dog Collar

Post by slickyboyboo »

Finished up a collar for one of my dogs today, used a ladder rack knot. For a 15.25" collar I used 23 ft total of paracord in 2 colors, but one single color can be used. It takes about 1.5' of cord for every finished inch of collar. I'm super stoked at how well it came out.

Here are a few pics of the process.

Barry,

I think that the biggest secret to making the collars/bracelets/slings is the wooden support rig that you show there. It keeps everything tight and gives you plenty of room to work around the project. Nice tight weave and the two finest colors that have ever been put together in the history of all mankind!

Delta will wear it proudly! Good job, man.

You are correct, the wooden jig makes all the difference in being able to keep it all in order, and tightly woven (probably will make an adjustable jig before long).

The two greatest colors of mankind didn't hurt it either. :-) I've got to make one for the GFs dog now, in USM black and gold, and I got a couple of others that want me to teach them how to do it. It's just fun stuff to do with spare time.

Funny thing about your comment about Delta wearing it proudly. I took it off of her, to attach her tags, and before I could sit down with it, she was in my lap on the couch, as if to say "Hey, that's mine, put it back on!".

Where are you buying the para cord and clips?

I got everything off of ebay. I did find that the place I was getting my paracord on ebay, has a website, and I can get the paracord just a bit cheaper. I also used SS 1" D-rings, but standard chrome plated D-rings can be gotten cheaper at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Thanks, haven't made any goose or duck lanyards yet, but I'm sure I could figure it out pretty easy. Have actually already run the thought through my head a time or two.

Hey slick, can you repost up those pics again? Also willing to make for sale?

I have a 75 lb chocolate lab. I can buy the cord and ship it directly to you. I am really interested in this!

Thanks

Sorry about the pics being gone, I moved some pics to a new folder in my photobucket, and it obviously gave them a new link. They should be fixed now, and below are a few more that I have made.

Ray, I will be glad to make you a collar. I will send you a PM in just a bit will all the ins and outs of what I need.

Here is one a guy had me incorprate a dog tag into for his lab.

This one is for my best friend, his wife got me to make it for his dog as a Christmas stocking stuffer, since he is about to graduate from The University of Memphis.
