Pulled Turkey Thighs & Legs

Post by HunterGKS »

I’ve always been in a quandary in regards to what to do with wild turkey legs. Every recipe I have tried has not tasted too good. I looked through my recipe file & came across 1 that I thought could be modified for thighs & legs. It turned out pretty good. Ron, We may have another lunch meal to go with Walt’s venison soup!!

INGREDIENTS

Turkey thighs & legs (I used 4 sets)
01.JPG
3 cans of beer (depending on pressure cooker size & amount of meat, more or less beer)
02.JPG
BBQ Sauce (I used Jack Daniels Hickory Brown Sugar I used about ½ a 40 oz bottle)
03.JPG
DIRECTIONS

Place the turkey meat & beer in a pressure cooker. The meat should be covered with the beer.

When the weight starts to rock, cook for 15 minutes.
05.JPG
After cooling, remove the meat & remove bones, ligaments, fat, & whatever else isn’t meat. The meat should
literally fall off the bones & the ligaments will be real easy to spot & remove.

07.JPG
Using 2 forks pull all the meat apart.
08.JPG
Place in bowl & mix in as much BBQ as your taste requires.
09.JPG
You can use other condiments like hot sauce, garlic, onion, whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for the recipe. I was in same boat as you until last spring.

I'll keep them all from now on.

I salted and peppered, placed in the crock pot, then covered with a little water (beer may be an improvement). I cooked on low until the meat was falling off bones and ligaments pulled free easily (6 or 8 hrs). I then refrigerated and chopped the following day and heated, then added meat to heated corn tortillas with a little avocado, cilantro, and pico for Turkey tacos. Very similar to pork tacos. I'm hungry thinking about it.

Here's another way to do the thighs & legs. I removed the links to the pis as
they were on Photo-Bucket & don't work. I can add pics if anyone is interested.

Well, It was almost 6 years ago. The more different recipes, the better. I have actually taken 2 0r 3
recipes from here, combined, & tweaked them to come up with an "original."
