Ham, Beans, Barley, & Cabbage
With fall turkey season approaching, I’ve started cooking for camp. This recipe is similar to one I posted for ham & beans. I have a lot going on right now & made a few changes in the interest of time. I used 2 cans of black beans, a 1 1/2 pounds of ham, & a box of barley. I also bought a large box of Beano & several fire starters if anyone has the urge to join the Blue Flame Brotherhood.
I did a taste test & it’s "Woo-wee, shut my mouth, slap your grandma!” GOOOOOOD!!!! The rest is in the freezer ready to go to Gobbler’s Roost.
Ingredients
1/2 pound dry great Northern beans
1/2 pound dry great Pinto beans
1 pound cooked ham, diced
1 small onion, diced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dried parsley
3 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons ramps chopped optional (may use garlic)
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
1. Wash Beans & remove any that are shriveled as well as any stones.
2. Place the beans in a large container add the baking soda as you cover the beans with water. The baking soda may help reduce gas. (Learned this from my Sis’s MIL. Verified & it’s true.)
3. Soak the beans over night.
4. Drain & rinse beans.
5. Put all ingredients into a large pot. Add enough water to cover.
6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat & simmer for ½ to 1 hour until the cabbage is tender. Add water as needed.

It definitely looks good. I am a cooked cabbage kinda guy.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Cabbage?????
Well "pigs n' a blanket" or "glumpies", as my polish friends call em', are the best fer' that cabbage.. but then again I enjoy a "ruben on rye" also
Other wise, let the cabbage & beans work for themselves and "NOT" together
Is the best for that combo!!
Good reciepe though .. but wouldn't try it unless I had way to many brewskies .. or was really desperate!!
