Here's a clip of two on at the same time. I stopped videoing when the third one hit. We had three on at one time twice. https://vimeo.com/104295004

Those are some "serious" looking fish.

Thanks,

These fish are very good eating, but we have to turn all these back in NC. The ones we get to keep are between 18" and 27". It was a great time Hal, almost as much fun as last year! lol Trevor is my hero, great fisherman....but holy cow the boy can eat!

That's awesome guys, looks like ya'll had a great time! The grin on your grandson's face says it all.
We can keep 1 fish over 27" here. I'd rather put the big ones back and eat the smaller ones anyway.

I've read that these big reds are typically female and can be anywhere from 25-40 years old. I remember old photos from here in the Ga/SC low country when folks would stack them up like cord wood on the docks when they were legal to catch. They aren't fit to eat that big so it's probably a good thing that there's a slot limit on sizes. Legal size fish aren't of reproductive age. Around here, the juveniles stay inshore until they are about 3 years old, then they move offshore and come back in the spring and fall to spawn once mature. Those are beautiful fish and they do tug. Nice going, Hal, Diablo. Good to see the grandson enjoying fishing. Some of my best memories of dad were fishing with him and an uncle when I was a little older. Gil

Nearly every one we caught was male. Most all of them squirted lots of milk when we pulled them in and lifted them by the belly. You can see milk on my pants and squirting in a couple of the pics. We had to keep rinsing the bottom of the boat so it wouldn't be so slippery...

Hal, here's an interesting study of age, sex and weight compiled by NC biologists in the area you probably fished. The oldest fish was 56 years old with lots of 40 year old fish.

Nice catch guy's....they do put up a fight. This month and next is what they call running of the bulls in south La, when the big one's come in to spawn in the passes.
