Best/Cleanest way to cut aluminum?

Post by Stinky J Picklestein »

I bought a B Square cantilever rib base to mount my FFIII, since my receiver isn't drilled and tapped. It's a LOT of metal just to have under an FFIII. I want to cut it down. What would be cleanest way to cut an aluminum piece like this? Thanks.

Tape it.Mark it. Cut it with a hacksaw, then clean it up with a dremel if it has rough edges.
Put you plans in the nail scarred hands.

A thin cut-off wheel on a 4" grinder. They are dangerous as Hell, but effective. If you don't have access to one, a hack saw will certainly work. You can dress the cut end with a file and then some sandpaper to smooth out the cut. If the base is black, a magic marker will work well to repaint the cut end. It may take several coats.
Hope this helps...

Thanks. I might try the hacksaw. The good thing is that it's over 11" long, and I'm planning on cutting it down to about 4", so I have plenty of room to practice a few cuts. :)

Stop off at a machine shop. They will cut it nice and square and prolly not charge you.
Worked for me.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

I've cut them with a dremel, but a chop saw works too if you have a metal blade.

you can cut alum with a fine tooth wood blade on a chop saw, just make sure you have it clamped good.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have no need for a 30-06, I have a shotgun

Thanks, y'all. The hacksaw worked really well, and I just used a file to smooth the rough edges. I tried some black automotive touch-up paint, and it matched up almost perfectly. :)
