How much are you expecting to pay for a stock. Bass Pro has a youth 20 ga blued for 329.99. Cheaper than dirt has one for 338.00. Looks like a youth stock is about 80.00, don't know how much a full size stock would run, I guess you could figure roughly the same or more as the youth stock.

Bass Pro wants $329.00 for an 870 express 20 gauge, full size stock for $329.00

With a little more checking you could probably find it cheaper. If it were me I would have to talk the guy down or let it slide. JMO

I'd definitely give it a look. Those older 870's are just better made than the newer ones, IMO

Walmart has them here for $307, full size, laminate stocks. The barrel is too long or I would buy one. I wanna build one for BIL. I would try to get him down a bit but would most likely buy it.

If you're planning on using it as a turkey gun, I'd just get used to the gun as is. I love a compact gun for that anyway!

I'd buy the older gun and put a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad to extend the LOP on the youth stock. A little extra recoil reduction never hurts.

Drill and tap, burris ff3 and it will fit perfectly.

I don't think that's a bad price. However, if you are going to change out the stock and forearm it might be cheaper just to go ahead and get the one with the composite stock for $329. I don't buy in to the older guns are better or shoot better. I have never had an 870 fail and my daughter's 870 (2 yrs old) out shoots my older 870 (15 yrs) by a landslide.

Are the 870 youth models wingmasters or expresses? Gil

Best fix I've found is a sims slip on recoil pad. Lengthens it and helps with recoil as a bonus.

I shoot an 870 youth 20 ga. on occasion and used it to kill my turkey this spring. Nothing has been added or taken away and the stock is fine for a few occasional shots a year. Leave it alone and use it the way it is,,IMO

Yeah, alot of folks actually find a shorter LOP stock more comfortable when shooting sitting against a tree..

Although I don't hunt with it much anymore, I like the short stock on my 870, 20. I'm a pretty big guy, but it just seems easier to shoulder or something when turkey hunting. Give it a try before you go spend the dough on a new stock. I could never wing shoot with it, but it worked fine for me for killing turkeys. Oh, if you end up wanting a shur-shot stock, PM me. I think I still have one laying around, I need to look for it. But I could save you a couple bucks.
