favorite rifle caliber?
favorite rifle caliber?
I love seeing this thread posted on forums, I dunno why just to see peoples different opinions.
Hands down what is your favorite rifle caliber?
Mine would be the 22-250, dont ask me why but I have a passion for this caliber. I've killed everything from armadillo's to deer with it and it does a pretty dang good job of all of them.
So let's hear em.

Right now it's 6.8mm(.277). Same diameter as 270. Really lovin the AR upper I built in 6.8.
I think it changes from time to time with most folks.

Re: favorite rifle caliber?
270 Win. I load from 90 to 150 grain for it and gives me a good varmint and big game rifle in one. However my next will be a 257 Roberts. Not sure why just been wanting one for a while.

Re: favorite rifle caliber?
My always grab gun is my .22 mag. It kills everything from squirrels to 300lb hogs. (I don't deer hunt with it.) but its is my favorite.
Re: favorite rifle caliber?
I like my model 721 Remington 30-06, Makes those extra long shots real easy,,,180 Winchester Silver Tip bullets does a great job, no tracking needed after a hit.

My favorite for hunting deer would be 30-06 with a 165 grain Sierra bthp pushed @ 2900 fps. I ain't had a deer make it out of sight with that round.. But there all good a long a you're slinging lead.

Re: favorite rifle caliber?
I have had so many favorite calibers over the years, I don't think I have enough room to list,...lol. From the 22 Hornet up to the 460 WM.
As long as they print bullet holes into each other, I like them pretty well.
So, I am gonna have to say my all time favorite is the lowly 22 lr. I think I use this little guy to do more of my dirty work than any other.
Now that I have been using these quiet subsonic loads that shoot quite accurate and have them muffled. It is my go to gun for most instances.
Now if you would have asked if I was allowed only one rifle to own, and what caliber,... I think I would have to say a plain ole 7mm Rem Mag. With 100grn varmint bullets up to 190grn Big Game bullets, It will take care of PDs,Crows, up to Grizzlies, and Moose.

I was turned onto my 257 Weatherby Mag several years ago by my local gunshop owner. As the years go by, the more I like it. I have put a Timney trigger in it and changed out the stock. I'm shooting 110 grain Accubonds. I love this gun, but the ammo is extremely high!

7mm-08....10 ft-lbs of recoil, plenty flat to shoot to 300 yds and almost always DRT
Re: favorite rifle caliber?
Ruger model 77 in .270 does the job and always has for me!

Montana has no caliber restrictions on big game hunting, I have killed a pile of deer with a Winchester model 9422M,,,22 magnum. These big Mule Deer can be tough but 1 shot between the peekers and they go straight down.

Same for me, I love my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308. A stainless steel barrel and action, with a beautiful piece of black walnut for the stock, even has a bit of tiger striping in the grain. Light, points very well, groups factory ammo great, and topped with a Leupold VXII 3-9. I had the trigger worked and its a great gun. I prefer the short bolt action over the long actions chambered for cartridges like the 30-06 or 270. That's just me.chatterbox wrote:.308 outta my 7600. Shooting 150 grain core loks. Love it!

That 30-284 is a great caliber. Almost right up there with the 300 Mag.turkeybuster wrote:30 cal. 284.[308 rechambered to 284-with 30 cal bullet]
Those 284 Win cases have made some great calibers, 30s down to 6mm.
A buddy has a 6mm-284 and is a screamer. I personally have a 6.5-284 that I do mostly long range matches with. I'm kind-of partial to 26s. I would love to have one in the WSM.

Re: favorite rifle caliber?
I don't really have a favorite. The ones I use work just fine. If my .22LR won't do it, my 30-'06 should.
Re: favorite rifle caliber?
Mine would be 260 or 270,
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have no need for a 30-06, I have a shotgun
