Versamax or V3 issue

Post by doublegobble1 »

Who’s has issues with Remington Versamax or V3. Had a shell get demolished today. I think the shortened roll crimp allows too many ports to remain open. Shortens shell is about 2 3/4”. Looks like it pulled the shell out too soon, before pressure decline. Image

Sounds like that is exactly what happened. I think the design of those guns is ingenious, but apparently the designers failed to consider the possibilities that TSS presents to create heavy, hard recoiling but short shells. I think the only solution is to shoot lighter loads in your shorter shells or lengthen the shells with the use of spacers so that they cover more ports (assuming you are handloading). What are the particulars of that shell?

It’s a 2oz load. 3” shell. I loaded some fold crimped shells last night. Test today

Roll crimps should have a longer OAL though than a fold crimp.

That would be true unless he trimmed the hull before rolling.

It’s fired length that creates the issue. Rolled are shorter...

I am pretty sure Apex has a disclaimer talking about this issue on the Versamx and roll crimps
