Safety location
Safety location
What's your favorite spot for a gun to have a safety, regardless if it comes that way on a favored gun?
I'm pretty picky about this point, but I'm guessing most people don't care.

Re: Safety location
I prefer in the front of trigger guard. That way, it’s one motion to take the safety off and slide your finger into the guard and onto the trigger.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Re: Safety location
I've shot Remington shotguns for a long time, so back of the trigger guard is my preference. I could barely find the safety at the front of the trigger guard on my grandfather's old Winchester while pheasant hunting. For turkey, probably wouldn't matter.

Re: Safety location
I grew up shooting Winchester’s and hunting grouse. There was no time to search for a safety. Snap shots were the norm. On turkeys, it matters not.

Being a lefty, I really like my Mossberg 500 w/safety on top
All my guns are back triger guard safety and if right handed, safety switched for a lefty

Re: Safety location
Another "grew up on Remingtons:, so back of trigger guard. Took a little while, but I am completely accustomed to the tang safeties on my Beretta O/Us. Anywhere except front of trigger guard.
Re: Safety location
Behind the trigger. I have a German rifle that uses a sliding thumb safety with button in the middle. Button in the middle must first be depressed before the sliding safety can be moved to fire. It is the most safe safety I have ever seen.
Re: Safety location
Two really bad ones , in my opinion, are browning suicide safety and ww greener side safety. Winchester has a bad one on there 22 semi autos that was on top of the gun

Re: Safety location
Grew up shooting side-by-sides and over-unders, so top tang safety for me, followed by rear trigger guard. Some of those Remington rear trigger guard safeties are real noisy though. Hate that DOINK, so have to use two fingers to slide it quietly for turkeys. Agree on the Greener. Worst ever.

Re: Safety location
Tang for turkeys, provided it’s quiet.
Front of trigger for wing shooting.

Re: Safety location
Being a lefty, I do care....a lot. But, since I shoot right-handed guns most of the time and have since I was a kid, there ain't much to do about it. I tried having a left-handed safety applied to my gun one time, but never could get used to it. My favorite is thus a top-tang safety. I shot a Ruger Red Label O/U for years, and its safety was only one of the reasons why I loved that gun.

I have a chance to get a pistol grip on another site for my Benelli .. AND will report back this spring if I do get it..
Doc .. I don't hunt, and should probably, but I also love my Ruger RL

Re: Safety location
I have tang safeties on all my turkey guns and hunting rifles. Being of right mind, that ain't easy. But it is the best for me and worth the trouble.
Re: Safety location
I really like the suicide safety. With all those Garand, Ruger Mini-30s and14s out there it must be possible to work well. If I were starting a gun company I could see doing all completely ambidextrous autoloaders with Garand-style safeties, except for manufacturing costs being higher than the cheap rear trigger guard style.
Re: Safety location
I don’t see how anyone could like a front trigger safety. That is like a car with steering wheel on the right

Not exactly...To me its natural. For wing shooting it's a no brainer for me!

Re: Safety location
Really haven’t given it much thought. But I like to quietly use two fingers to push the safety off so they don’t here the click
Probably doesn’t matter as my heart beats louder than the safety being clicked off anyways
For using 2 fingers to silently go to full battery I would rather they be in front

I’m with ya on the two finger method. Absolutely necessary for turkey and deer hunting!

Re: Safety location
I switched from a x2 to a Beretta with front, can't get used to it. Half the time in the field buddies have two rounds off I scrambling to find a safety behind trigger that don't exist
