Smokeless Muzzleloader???
I have been talking to Darren Dhe (BigSpurs68) on smokeless muzzleloaders. I’m really liking the idea of not cleaning between shots.
The CVA Scout V2 45/70 in stainless is very appealing to me.
Anyone on here shoot smokeless in a 45/70 conversion???

Have you looked into Blackhorn 209? I have gone 8-10 shots without cleaning in bewtween. Once you go Blackhorn you'll never go back.

Loose is the only way it comes...no pellets. I am intrigued with smokeless too, but of all the substitutes, BH is the clear winner hands down. Only drawback is cost.Turkinator wrote: ↑December 9th, 2018, 6:29 pmAre you shooting loose BH? Care to share a good load for it? I shoot 250gr SSTs I'm shooting 150gr 777 now.

MGM are supposed to make an Encore barrel that's a smokeless muzzel loader. I'm checking it out. What powders are they recommending?

Here is a link to the Blackhorn website http://www.blackhorn209.com/Turkinator wrote: ↑December 9th, 2018, 6:29 pmAre you shooting loose BH? Care to share a good load for it? I shoot 250gr SSTs I'm shooting 150gr 777 now.
They have a section on load data at the top of the page. As Spuriosity pointed out, Blackhorn is only available as a powder. I'm shooting 100 grains (by volume) with a Barnes T-EZ saboted bullet.

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
I shoot Barnes 290 T-EZs with 105 gr equiv. BH 209 for deer (73.5 gr actual). I bumped that up to 115 gr equiv (80.5 gr actual) for elk to get a little more energy and flatter trajectory out to 200 yds in my Rem 700 ML rifle.Turkinator wrote: ↑December 9th, 2018, 6:29 pmAre you shooting loose BH? Re: Hankins' Break Action Smokeless Muzzleloaders
I pass Jeff’s place in Dry Ridge Ky everytime I drive to go hunt down to our spot. I’m gonna have to buy me a CVA and do the conversion. Thought about it for the Encore but would rather have a dedicated leave it alone and not have to swap barrels on my encoreSloppy_Snood wrote: ↑December 10th, 2018, 7:46 am Don't screw around Hoo'... Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
Here smokeless is illegal in muzzy season, not sure of you're regs.
My buddy has a real ultimate, not the rem one they got the plug for it's amazing. He shoots out to 400.
He says wanna shoot, I'm cringing 4 pellets, was not bad

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
I've used BH 209 for several years in my TC Impact and my son in the TC Encore. We run 100gr with .50 TC Shock Wave 250gr Sabots. Still some smoke but it sure shoots cleaner and no problem with shots out to distance, beyond operator error!

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
You are simply not going to get the velocity of smokeless gunpowder out of BH209. Keep this in mind Hoo if you are concerned about 400+ yards ML shots on deer.

Hankins is 1.5 years behind. He is covered up with work. I need to call him and see if I am able to order everything and do the conversion myself.

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
I have 2 Encore 45/70 smokeless conversions done by Jeff Hankins. They shoot lights out, incredibly accurate. My second he did for me was back in my hands 5 days from when I shipped it. Can’t say enough about his work and professionalism.

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
I'd wait 1 1/2 years for the Hankins then. I know all the players in the SML business now. And I can report that Hankins generally fixes the problems with the other SML builders.
BTW... I cannot imagine the Encore conversions taking Jeff much time at all. His major backlog is for high powered rifles and his .45 SML

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
Well I have a Bergara barrel 45/70 converted coming for my Encore. Got a good deal from a buddy. Looking forward to getting it and having it ready for next muzzleloader season. Will post up pictures and info after I get it and shot it some.
Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader???
Go to Dougs Message Board and watch the classified area. There are some good buys to be had. I shoot the 45 SML built on an old 700ML action.
