Browning bps or mossberg 500?

Post by aristico »

Think im gonna get myself a 410 and have pretty much narrowed it down to the browning bps and mossberg 500. All things being equal which way do you lean?

Well I have a M500 with a 24” barrel in 410 and I have a BPS 20 with a 26” barrel. The BPS is a heavier gun but much better built.

The BPS will cost you at least twice as much.

Which one comes threaded? If the BPS is the only one that comes threaded, then they're about the same price.

Mossberg at Wal-Mart is 254 plus tax with 24" full barrel. Every now and then one will shoot great out the box from what I read. If not I bet you can get it threaded with choke for less than a BPS. Mossberg are extremely easy to drill and tap ,uses a 417m base.

Bps being threaded is a huge plus in my book though! It does not limit your choke options. Lots of 410 bps chokes available.

Mossberg weighs 6.25 lbs and the Browning weighs 7 lbs.

To me, yes. The Browning is worth the extra, but you can see my handle and I’m partial...

Make sure you realize that a Browning BPS in .410 weighs a flat 7 lbs. If you are getting into the whole .410/TSS fad, this will not be your best choice for a light .410 gauge. A better gun than a Mossturd but admittedly heavier.

I would take the 870 over either of them any day of the week. But, I am partial to 870s. And, the fixed full choke barrels pattern pretty well too.

Henry makes a nice lever action .410. I saw a story on someone using it successfully on turkeys. If you're looking at heavier guns, I wonder why not a 28 or 20 gauge.

Already have a 28 and 20. Want a 410 just not a single shot or sxs/o/u. I dont mind the weight of the gun honestly have never really noticed it.

I have a Mossberg 500 and it shot Apex 3” 27/32 oz #9.5s great with the factory full barrel. I sent it to SumToy though and got it threaded. It’s in the mail on the way back to me now. I have a tad over $400 in the gun and bought it new. This is a 30 yard pattern with the factory full barrel.

Does anybody know what the 870 Express 410 actually weighs? I am pondering getting one myself.
