12ga 870 21" barrel choke
12ga 870 21" barrel choke
Just starting to reload my own tss loads.
I've read good things about using Indian creek chokes in 870's.
Anyone have a suggestion on a choke for a 21" barrel?
I currently have a 660 jellyhead and a 650 rob Roberts but I think they might be too tight.
When it warms up, I will give them a test.

If the .660 Jellyhead is the old style tube I would definitely give it a try, I have one in my 11-87 Super Mag and it shoots lights out with TSS.

I believe the jellyhead is the old style. I've had it since 2010.
I'll shoot both chokes when I test, just trying to get some more options in case they do not pattern well.

Re: 12ga 870 21" barrel choke
I have a 870 supermag sps with 20 inch barrel and the Indian creek 665 did great but it's tight and the 20 inch was sparse. I got a Indian creek 670 and it does 410 in the 10 inch and 235 in the 20 with 2.5 oz. 8.5s. It was a nice and even 20 inch so that's what I'm shooting. A 675 would probably be perfect. I tried other Remington and Carlson chokes from 670 to 680 but none were no where close to the patterns and consistency of Indian creek chokes. I'd try what you have first tho you never know.

I don't think you could go wrong with a .660 Indian Creek either, the thing is with TSS it's not hard to find a good choke/gun combination.

The load size may come into play also. With the 2.5 oz load im shooting the ic665 pattern was a little blown and uneven. A smaller load would probably do better with 665 or 660.

all in who load it is. 665 is a good place to start. Alot of times we up in the 675 range.
