ML'er Trajectory question.

Im shooting the Barnes 250 gr. Spitfifire T EZ bullet with 100 gr.of Triple 7 (2 50 gr. pellets) powder. Didnt get to shoot it at 100 yards but it is dead on at 50 yards. Any educated guesses as to how high or low it will (should) be at 100 yards? Also any guesses as to FPS for this load.

I’m guessing that you’d be 1-2” high at 100’. If you’re shooting through a scope. My reasoning is that most deer calibers that are dead nuts at 50 will shoot that high at 100’. It’s because of the height of the scope in relation to the center of the bbl. Just my humble opinion but it is reasonably qualified. :thumbright:

I’ll defer to Hognutz, but willing to bet that you’ll be—if not 1 MOA—1 MOD (minute of deer).

Agreed, Bumblefoot. We sighted a ML in last week and put it dead nuts at 50’. You’ll be fine to 100 and beyond.

Guessing would have to accept that it really is dead on for both windage and elevation. Then you'd want to know the height over bore. And is the reticle square with the bore? Personally, I have a poor track record with that. I'll dial it to be a little low up close so I'm not shooting over the paper at 100. Getting the reticle squared off...pfft!
I know for a fact I tend to cant a rifle. That is why I use levels on the action and a plumb bob for bore sighting. Still have to verify by printing groups while dialing up and down. That is how I also know I've had a scope with the reticle not square to the turrets; not a cheapo either.

So, my guess is you're inches off vertically and also some off horizontally.

LOL just did this for a friend it's an estimate, compiled through using hodgon fps for two pellets, Barnes bc and Hornady ballistic calculator for the tez. Like I said it's an estimate.

FPS 1763
BC .195

50 yard 0
100 -2
150 -8.2
200 -19.6

Tom. I can believe your numbers as a line of trajectory from a straight line out of the bore. But if you have a scope on the gun that is inches above that line, the trajectory stays the same but the sighting plane comes into effect. That’s where the high part comes in at 100. The higher the scope is mounted the higher you’ll be at 100. Bullets don’t rise. They succumb to gravity immediately after leaving the barrel.

You will be good to 125 yards easy. Been there, done that. With the same bullets.

Usually dead on at 50 will shoot pretty much dead on out to 125 yards with a scope mount up in medium rings......just my experience. And, that's on whitetails to 125 yards field experience. Hold it on em, and let her eat......

This was for 1.5 sight height.

Ok. I guess he’ll have to shoot it get the real numbers. But I’m still betting on it being high at 100 not low. Oh well.

I ran those numbers with being 1/2" off zero at 50 yards and 10 degree cant. That's about 3 inches off elevation and an inch off windage at 100. On a little GA doe at 125 you're missing low and maybe blowing a shank off. It'll probably get one of those northern moose, though!

I stand corrected, I guess. Not a ML guy. Looks like that's probably a good thing!! :D

I'm heading North to deer camp in a few . I will shoot at 100 yds when I get there and post the results.

Thanks, Red. I’m curious as to what it will be. My experience is pretty much with centerfire rifles. Still cautiously optimistic that it will not be low at 100.
I am not too old for new tricks!! Gettin damn close, though!!
