Need advise on improving 870 trigger
What is the cheapest way to improve my 870 trigger? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money but would like to lower the poundage and remove some creep.
Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
I've seen trigger kits that are supposed to do the job nicely.

Google PATRIOT SEAR SPRING. I put one in my 870 and it made a big improvement. It's also inexpensive and easy to install.

I done a little filing on mine and cut the spring a little shorter. No creep and light!

I got my 870 from Warbird. He had done the trigger and it feels like 3 lbs with a crisp clean glass rod breaking when i squeeze it

After looking at several products and reviews I went with the timney even tho it cost a good bit. Which spring should I use? I'm thinking the lightest 1

You might not want the litest trigger. Reason being if you ever take a kid hunting it needs to be touch heavier than the litest spring. That's my opinion anywaysFl strutter wrote: ↑July 17th, 2017, 12:47 pm After looking at several products and reviews I went with the timney even tho it cost a good bit. Which spring should I use? Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
I've done two and the lightest one (blue, 2lb) was too light for me on a hunting gun. I used the white and set my triggers at 3.5 lbs. A digital turkey scale and a long looped piece of string works as a pretty decent trigger pull gauge. Just do it a bunch of times and watch the weight when the trigger breaks.Fl strutter wrote: ↑July 17th, 2017, 12:47 pm After looking at several products and reviews I went with the timney even tho it cost a good bit. I'm shooting a 12 3.5 no kid will ever shoot it. Just me. So the lightest will be too light. I've read where the lightest blue 1 only got down to 3.3 pounds

I'm sure it varies from gun to gun. Blue was more like 2 lbs for me. No need to reinstall the trigger group to test it, so it will be easy to find the one you want.

Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
On the timney kit what does the Allen head screw Do? I seen where it says to turn clockwise no more that 4 full turns. Does turning clockwise go up or down on poundage and does that effect any creep that's in the trigger or Not?

Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
The Allen head screw if for fine tuning the weight of the trigger pull. I'd have to pull one out to be sure, but I think turning the screw clockwise compresses the spring and increases the pull weight. My guess would be that with the adjustment all the way counterclockwise, you would be at the lower end of the weight range of the spring. I don't recall that adjustment having much effect on creep, which was pretty minimal with the Timney sear in anyway. There was some noticeable reduction in take-up too.

MCARBO. Spring cost $12.95.

Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
I just installed the timney with the medium spring and wow. No creep at all and almost as good as my tikka rifle. A world of difference from stock trigger as it was very heavy with tons of creep. I highly recommend the timney for a turkey gun.

Re: Need advise on improving 870 trigger
Well I tried to adjust the screw on the sear some and it will not adjust seems to be stripped out or something. Sending it back to midway and they are sending me another one.
