Reading "old" posts several folks have indicated that they have both the Burris and Vortex and I would appreciate any comments on performance, mounting, pluses and minuses from individuals who have experience with both scopes. Thanks

I've got both. Venom hands down just for the ten light intensities alone

X2 on the ten light intensities on the Venom. I have both also, but I like the FF3 for the protective cover that doesn't have to be removed to shoot. In real low light the Venom shuts off till it gets enough light the FF3 stays on in a dark room. If you were using it for home defense also I would go with the FF3. I like the optic guards warbird turkey calls make for the FF3, but they want fit the Venom, and I don't know of one made to fit the Venom. Much as I like the Venom I would go with the FF3. You can't go wrong with either one you choose. Steve

FYI - I think NatchezSS has the FFIII with the AR mount on sale for $149, if that helps the decision process.

Stinky, $249 is what I just saw on Natchez. Ebay has better deals--$182 inclusive of shipping. Gil

I stand corrected. It is listed for $149. Gil

On further review, the offer is not available to residents of Georgia, Alabama or Tennessee according to the fine print in the ad. I spoke with someone at NSS and was told that the reason is because they are wholesale dealers in these states.

I have both of them and between the two the Vortex Venom hands down.

The best mounting solution hands down is Sumtoy's one piece Base/mount.

If you go with a weaver or picatinny Rail... When you get your Venom call Vortex and get them to swap out the mount that comes with thcomes Venom for the mount that comes with the Vortex Razor. The mount that comes with the Razor is a much more durable and much better put together mount because the Razor is Vortex's top shelf red dot retailing at $500. I'm getting ready to get a Razor to test out.

If you go with the AR FF3 AND if you have access to a machine shop or know someone that does:
You can take the AR base, cut the bottom off (the part that has the screw and clamp), then machine the bottom to a thickness of about .10, locate and drell four holes for the locating pins in the bottom of the area you just milled and you have a dandy protector. I did this on a sight that I run on a Speed Bead and it works great, you just have to get longer screws and make sure you get the right size. The screws that come with the AR base are 8x40 and the Speed Bead base requires 8x48 (do not ask me how I know). That is a great price form Natchez.

jet.com has the Vortex for ~$150, too. Cabelas has Trijicon RMRs for $350! I just got one of their deals on Leupold Mojave binos and I'm saving up for an Atlas trap, so I am not getting the RMR. Really oughtta though.

Anyone wants a kickback code for jet or cabelas, I can post it. Just don't want to hustle on here.

I've owned both. Started out with a FF3 and it lasted 1.5 seasons before I started having issues with it cutting in and out. Sent it back to Burris and they sent me another. It too lasted ~1.5 seasons before it succumbed to similar issues as the first.. Not fun having sights go bad during the middle of your season. Burris once again replaced it. I sold the new one and bought a Venom. I do like the brightness adjustments better on the Venom. It made it through this season just fine. If it can survive next season it'll be a step above the fastfire in my book.
