Doubles

Post by fowlfan »

My buddy and I hunted on the last day of the season. We were set up in an area that usually has a lot of action. We put out a jake and a hen decoy and got ourselves situated in the trees on the edge of the field. We called a bit and waited. Called some more and waited. We could hear some gobblin on the other side of the field, so we just kept working them. Finally, they appeared and we couldn't stop grinning. They slowly made their way across the field toward us, and as they got within 100 yards or so they picked up the pace and came toward our dekes. When they got to about 30 yards, I counted down 3,2,1 and we shot. I got the one on the left and he took right. We were using HEVIShot Magnum Blend and it crushed them both. That stuff is all business! Mine had a 8 inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs, my buddy's bird had a 9 1/2 inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs. We were stoked! Can't wait for the fall season.

That's awesome.

I have doubled with a few buddies over the years. Nothing like killing a gobbler, but two at the same time is just downright awesome!

RaspyD and I have been spoiled with 3 sets of doubles over the past several years. We actually doubled twice in 2008 and then doubled up again this year. It's awesome to double with a good friend or family member.

Congrats to your double and all your success!

Congrats on your double. I've hunted by myself mostly, but took a double with one of my sons once, and that was totally cool.

Congrats on the successful hunt! I killed my Tom with HEVI-13 also, worked like a charm. Those birds better watch out this fall!

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

I know a guy who doubled with a buddy of his, when the smoke finally cleared there was 9 beards between 2 turkey's!! 1 of them is currently the #2 non-typical in Alabama! I doubled my very first turkey with a buddy, 2 jakes before school one morning. That was back in the mid 90's. Hadn't doubled again until 2009, and that year I had 4 doubles that season!! Crazy how it happens! Congrats to you and your buddy, doubles are awesome, especially on the last day!

I think I've had five "one, two, bang" doubles and a couple delayed doubles. It always feels great to toss two of em in the truck at the end of the walk back.

Congrats on the double. I've been part of one or two, but not for several years. I've had opportunities but have just passed on my shot. At this stage in my turkey hunting career I'd rather kill the second one the next day.

I killed two in one shot with my old single shot in 2000 (by accident). I was drawn down on one gobbler and right when I dropped the hammer, a second gobbler ran up behind the one I was shooting at. They went down like bowling pins. Both birds were over 20 pounds, had 1 inch spurs & 10 inch beards.
I got a picture of 'em, but I'm photo posting challenged on this site.
