Bear Paw Mnts. Gobbler

Post by Grumpy »

I went out friday to check out a ranch I just got permission on and about 150 yrds. from the road was 3 big toms and 1 hen, it was around 2 pm., so I drove around the corner and walked back below the road along the creek until I was even with where I saw the turkeys , I crawled up the side of the hill next to the creek and when I could see the birds I stopped and laid on my belly , got all postitioned and made a call on the slate and all three toms started coming down from the dead fall and timber , it took about 10 minutes until one got into comfortable shooting range and he took a load of 3 in. 6 shot in the computer room and it was over for me until next spring. He weighed 20 lb. and 6 oz. with a 9 in. beard and 1 1/4 in. spurs. It was a first for me.

The only picture I took was here at the house of his crumpled body, not a good picture at all, Thanks gentleman did learn a lot reading (lurking) on here. Very addicting going after these volkswagons with wings, now that I know there are turkeys closer than 200 miles from here I will be after them again next April opening.
