Day 25 of the 2020 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

I headed back to “my” deer woods at about 12:30. I did a little repair work to the door on my stand
as well as swapping out the card in my trail cam. I got sat down at 12:50 with the temp at 72, bright
& sunny with a strong breeze.

At 13:31. a red worked through the undergrowth on my right followed 3 minutes by a fox, which didn’t
provide a shot. At 15:00, I got up to stretch & a red flew down a log to by right screaming its fool head
off! Within a minute of 2, a fox came down a tree & followed the red, again, no shot. At 15:25, another
fox moved through the brush on my left never stopping. At 15:46, there was a fox on my right, probably
the same 1 from earlier, again no shot.

I was getting tired & considered leaving. Then, at16:20, I saw a fox at the base of a tree in front of me.
It moved from left to right, went up a small sapling, & moved to another sapling that was bent over leaning
on the 1st. It stopped & the .17 did its job on a real young fox, probably from this springs hatch.

I headed out at about 17:30, the temp was up to 75 with a little cloud cover & still a strong breeze.

Bucks 3, 4, & 5 showed up on my trail cam.

I always get pics of good bucks before the season. Last year, I got a pair fighting on video.
Once the season starts, they ghost me!!

Thx but I don't bow hunt anymore. With a bad rotator cuff & tendinitis in both elbows,
it's almost impossible to draw.

George,
That's why they make cross bows

The newest "Hog Dog" ones, shoot a long ways and are very accurate .. but remember, it's only money to buy one :banghead:
But the bragging rights, priceless !!!!  :stir:

Xbows just don't appeal to me for some reason. I'll just have to live vicariously through my bowhunting friends & family.

I'm with you George on that one, but MI buddies accuracy at 60 yds and up ... deadly

I always said I'd get a cross bow when they became legal and when it came crunch time, I clamed up and said the hell with it

Sorry bud, I remembered you saying that you couldn't use a compound anymore but for some reason I thought you were using a cross bow. Apologies.

No deer for me today but boy was it beautiful just being out there.

No problem. I would have liked to get out in the woods yesterday after bushies
but I won't screw up anyone's deer hunt. Good luck!!

Thanks buddy

Bushies were all over the trees about 815 chasing and cutting nuts. Then about 1015 they took to the ground to clean up and fight over the nuts they had cut. If I didn't already have a couple limits on the freezer I would have been tempted to grab a gun and pop a few myself.
