Opening Day of the 2020 Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

It was 64, calm, & very foggy out side the woods at 07:05 this morning when I got to my honey hole.
Inside the woods was foggy as well but not too bad. I had planned on wearing shorts under my bibs
this morning but, at the last minute, put on jeans. I wore a long sleeved shirt & a light jacket. I
didn’t think I really needed the jacket but, I’d rather have it & not need it. As it turns out, I’m glad
I wore the jeans & jacket as the breeze picked up & it got a little chilly.

Walking back to where I sit, I found 1 tree down across the trail & several big limbs down right where
I hang my trail cam. Next time out, I’ll have the chainsaw with me.

At 08:05, I saw a flash of white to my left between the corn & the woods. It was just above the weeds.
I had no idea what it was. A few minutes later, a doe walked into the corn & a minute or so later, she
& 2 fawns walked out. It must have been a fawn tail that I saw. They walked across in front of me &
disappeared into the west end of the woods.

At 08:22, a fox showed up about 20 yards in front of me & slightly to my right. It was a nice, young male.
At 08:26, I spotted another squirrel to my hard right. I didn’t get a real good look but I think it was a red.
At 08:50 a fox came in to my left but didn’t stop long enough for a shot. At 09:12, a fox jumped up on a
dead fall about 60 yards in front of me to my left. Again, no clean shot.

As I have things to do today, I headed in at 09:45. It was 70 & still pretty foggy. I may hit my turkey woods
in the morning.

This pic is looking south into the woods. The light areas in the upper left are the south side of the woods.

A little bit of ganja as bait & you can get then to do about anything especially if
you have potato chips available.

It's still a little warm but inside the woods isn't too bad. Not sure how many I'll go for,
