Day 17 of the 2019 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

It was 78, breezy, & sunny with a few clouds when I set-up at 12:33.
The strong breeze made it comfortable.

At 01:32, I started to walk through the east section of woods. I
stopped to off-load some ice tea & saw something moving on a dead
fall. I couldn’t tell what it was as it was in the shadows & thought it
might have been leaves from the saplings growing up through the
dead fall. About that time, a fox jumped up on a high limb of the
dead fall, ran to the end, & sat there watching me (big mistake) while
I picked up the .17 &, at 01:41, added #8 to the count, a nice young
female. It was my first “bad” shot of the season take out the left side
behind the rib cage. I thought it would be a PIA to clean but it was just
as easy as if it had been a head shot albeit messier.

At 02:03, I got back to my spot, bagged the bushy, & headed into the west
section sitting down in the spot I got a fox the last time in these woods at
02:07. I went back to my spot at 02:55.

I had taken a fall at Lowe’s yesterday & was starting to stiffen up & was
getting a headache so I head in at 4 with the temp still at 78.

Now, Where is moose??

Do you ever shoot any gray’s, George?
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

In all the years I have hunted here, I have only seen 1 gray in the woods & shot it a few years ago.
They have all become citified. I know of 3 small towns that have a good population of black phased
grays.

Interesting. Around here the grays are abundant, with an occasional fox.

When I lived in southern Indiana, all we had were grays no foxes or PIAs.

Florida had mostly grays with some of the craziest looking foxes ever, all kinds
of different color arrangements. Foxes were protected down there.
