Day 14 of the 2019 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

It was 55 this morning with clear, sunny skies & o wind when I set-up in the creek bottom at 07:25.
This woods is a little different then the other 5 I have been hunting in the fact that the buckeyes
are thick, there a quite a few shagbark nuts, & a decent number of walnuts.

The action started 6 minutes later at 07:31 when a fox appeared on top of the roots of a dead fall.
It dropped to the ground & I didn’t see it again. At 07:39, I saw the shadow of a squirrel on 1 tree
that was going down another. I never saw it.

At 08:09, a coon came down a tree to my right & started foraging. At 08:52, another coon joined
the 1st, probably litter mates, & they both wandered up the ridge out of sight.

At about 09:00, the breeze picked up & it went from being chilly to being cold. At 09:20, I saw a
tail wave once from behind a tree up the ridge. Nothing more but, at 09:29, one popped onto a
very low branch & sunned itself for a couple of minutes before disappearing.

At 09:50, 1 started up a large tree & moved to the back & out of sight. At 09:56, it came down
& headed into the under growth never to be seen again.

I decided to head in at 10:15 with a slight breeze, sunny, & a temp up to 68.
