Day 2 of the 2019 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

It was really foggy & wet this morning so I delayed my plans to head to the woods
behind the house until 11:30. It was 68, calm, & a little overcast with skeeters &
bugs galore. Thank goodness for Thermacell! I sat until12:50 & decided to walk
back to the pond. There were some large trees across the 4-wheeler trail & it was
like a jungle getting to the pond. I saw a young coon on the walk.

At 01:00, I spotted a fox in the tree tops across the pond. I watched it for 15 minutes
before it disappeared. Even with the t-cell, the bugs sent me back at1:35.

At 02:23, a young fox trotted past at about 5 yards but never stopped long enough for
a shot. At 02:40, I saw 1 in the tree tops in front of me. At 02:45, I got a shot but
missed. I think I rushed & pulled the shot. It went back into the tops & I watched but
didn’t see where it went. At 02:52, it started down the side of the tree. I followed it
in the scope & dropped it on the move. I won’t post a pic of the shot placement but
it was a good head shot.

With all the high winds we’ve had, I expected some trees down but didn’t expect what
I found. The 1 big mass is right across the 4-wheeker lane. I’m not even going to try to
clear but will look for an alternate route to cut a trail.

I headed in at 03:30 with the temp at 80 & sunny with a light breeze. I plan on going
to another woods tomorrow afternoon.
