Yote down

Post by OLE RASPY »

Went coyote hunting today. Drove 1hr 10 minutes to my first setup. Got situated in the woods where I wanted to be and turned call on. I played several calls. I started out with jack rabbit in distress then baybee cottontail then female howls then pup screams. Soon as I turned it on pup screams this male yote showed up within a minute. All together though I was calling for 29 minutes and this one came in at the 30 minute mark. I usually don't call that long but today I did and it payed off. I killed this one at 12:30 pm. I put the call about 30 yards in front of me and he came in at 80 yards and stopped dead in his tracks to look at the mojo I had runnin. Shot him in his neck. After I killed this one I made one more set on a different farm but I didn't see nothing.

It's a .223 savage axis. I put a Boyd's stock on it and free floated the barrel. First gun I ever did this to myself and I love it. It's a shooter to. I put a 6x24x42 weaver AO on it and shooting 50 grain varmit tip bullets. Bad medicine. I think I've killed 10 yotes with this gun but this is first year hunting with it since I re did it with stock and new scope.
As far as the sling goes it is a adjustable sling.

Nice rig, Raspy. Well done with the yote.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Yea it's fun. For me its next best thing to turkey hunting. It's adrenaline rush when they come in running and looking for that dieing rabbit or hurt pup and you have just out smarted him.

Congratulations on getting a new property to hunt!

The last three coyote calling seasons have been pretty slow here in California because of the drought. Hopefully we will get enough rain and the coyotes will have great big litters in the spring of 2016.

Way to go! That's a hunt I never tried, hear them all the time around our camp at night. When they are grouped up together, raising cane, it has to be one of the coolest sounds of the wild.
