Bug Shield

Post by CamoMan4025 »

So this has absolutely nothing to do with hunting, but here we go. I have a 2018 F-150. I've always put bug shields on my trucks. I ordered one for this truck and it fit, but the clips on the outside on each edge caused a problem. It's too difficult to explain, but the screws ended up resting down on top of the headlights not allowing the hood to close flush. It was an AVS shield and I've checked several other brands and they install the same way. I had a guy recommend a "stick on" type. I was wondering if any of you guys had a stick on type and what you thought of it.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kev - I've had a stick-on bug shield on my 2012 Titan since it was brand new, and no issues with it coming loose, etc. It did rub the hood paint on the driver and passenger wing edges, requiring me to add a sticky rubber bumper on the inside of the shield to keep it off the hood when compressed by the wind. Other than that, all good. John

I put a stick-on bug shield as well as stick on wind blockers (or whatever they're called) on all
4 doors on my '17 Ram. The 1s on the doors are a little tricky as part of it goes into the window
channel & has to be in the exact right spot. Other than that, no problems at all.

So as far as the stick on bug shield, does it mount under the hood lip at all with screws or just stick to the top of the hood lip?

It uses double-sided adhesive tape which is applied under the lip of the hood where you would traditionally have screwed in the older style.

I just checked mine & it does use double sided tape but sticks to the outside of the hood not underneath.

Thanks George, I ordered a Weathertech yesterday from Autozone. If I can't make it fit then I can return it without paying return shipping.

That's a pretty good deal. I have Weathertech floor mats front & rear & they're really nice. If you can't WTs to fit,
let me know & I'll get you the UR\L for where I got mine.
