Tenzing TV-14 Vest

Post by Ozark Ridge Runner »

Have any of you gentlemen used this vest (the one without the kickstand legs)? I haven't been able to see a picture of the front of the vest and the pocket layout. Any general impressions about the quality?

I bought one this season.
I have hauled out lots of birds with
It already! I'm really pleased with mine
Thus far. I plan on doing a full review of it
After my season is over.
Another one to check out is the
Knights Products Turkey Vest.
(It's not Made by Knight & Hale)
The new one is more expensive, but
I got to see them last Sat and I was
Very impressed.

I look forward to seeing your review. I have been able to see images of the TP-14 vest with the kickstand legs (not for me for sure), and thought the pocket layout looked pretty good. If your vest has the same pocket arrangement it might be the one for me. I have been using a Cabelas vest for the last 4 or 5 years and never really liked it. Did I mention I like pictures? :D I'll keep my eyes peeled for your review.

Tenzing-TV14 Vest Review

Pro's
- Approx 2.5# unloaded
-One size fits All
-Good zippers and pulls
-Comfy seat
-Descent back padding
-Comfortable shoulder straps
-Blood proof game bag
-Game bag unzips and has compression
straps to secure to load.
-Chest strap(Adjustable) keeps vest in place
When hauling a gobbler(More comfortable than the Bob Dixon)
-Straps, buckles, compression straps well designed
And very adjustable
-Good stitching. Seams are very strong
-Quiet and soft materials , yet appear strong and durable

Con's
-One Size fits all---Too much extra lashing if you
Are a small framed guy
-Small box call pocket
-Crappy shell loops
-Plastic D-Rings
-Mesh pockets will eventually tear up and elastic
At the top of those pockets will stretch out in time.
-Water bottle pockets should NOT be mesh(Atleast
I assume that was the pockets intention?)
- Poorly thought out interior pockets
-No waterproof interior pockets.
-No primary locator call pockets

External Pockets
--Mesh Mouth call pockets on right and left panels
are easy to access.
--2 small zippered pockets for mouth calls with
Snap closure bag attached to plastic D-ring.
--1 larger zippered pocket on each side. Large enough
For gloves, head net, chalk, flash light, could
Even put a Thermacell in one if u wanted.
--1 Small open pocket sits in front of the larger
Pocket on both left and right panel(Too shallow for my liking)
--1 large mesh pocket sits on left side and on right side of the vest
Its actually a mesh material that connects the
Front of the vest to the rear of the vest. So
They turned them into extra pockets.
I use mine for gloves, head nets, warm beanie.
--1 Small box call pocket on left front panel. I say small because I
Use A Primos Hotbox (25% smaller than most) and it
Fits perfect. WILL NOT hold a large box call. It does have a nice
Adjustable strap and buckle closure tho
--Left front panel also has a rectangle zippered pocket
That folds down to reveal shell loops(Worthless) and
Small mesh pockets I assume for mouth calls.
I used this pocket for my Push/pin calls.
Worked great.
(Just for the record, not even my Bob Dixon
Vest has good shell loops!!!).
-- Right front panel has 2 Slate call pockets with
Nice flaps that stay shut via genetic closure and
Each has a nice elastic draw cord to keep the call
Secure and pocket closed.
---3 Striker loops and strikers are easily accessed.

Internal Pockets
--Left side Large vertical Mesh. Could hold Thermacell.
I used mine to carry either turkey tote or Ziplock with
Toilet paper.
--2 small zippered pockets for various small items
--Right side has 2 small open top pockets(Worthless)
--1 large horizontal zippered mesh pocket. I used it for
Pruning shears

All in All I give it 4.5/5 STARS
The Good
1. Well built
2. Lightweight
3. Nice chest strap and very adjustable
4. Comfortable when carrying a gobbler
5. Descent pockets.
6. Good access to gear

The Bad
1. One size fits All
2. Expensive
3. Some useless pockets without secure
Closure
4. Could have better back padding
5. No waterproof pocket
6. Small Box call pocket
7. Mesh pockets on side will not hold up to
Hard core hunting(Not long-term)

Other vests that I would like to try:
Limb Hanger
Knights Vest
Gobbler Sling

Thanks for the objective review. I'll probably pick one of these up and give it a whirl.
