Hunting Western Kansas
Any tips on how to hunt the birds there and what to expect?
Re: Hunting Western Kansas
Weather in midwest has been so erratic, it's hard to predict anything. Birds are definitely way behind on breeding, and trying to play catch up, leading to strutting and not responding to calls. Hunted in Kansas with one day terrible weather, and 3 birds gobbled on roost, once only. Next day was sunny, and counted 16+Gobblers hammering on roost in the exact same area.

Yeah...I'm headed to north-central on Wednesday, and I have no idea what to expect. I'll just go there and start crankin' on calls, I guess.

I'm guessing by then you should have a fair amount of Hens to nest, which will make it easier to call them in. I do well on henned up birds in the 6-7pm time slot catching them heading back to roost. Called both of mine in at that time. Helps knowing where the major roost is, and where they go to strut.Stinky J Picklestein wrote:Yeah...I'm headed to north-central on Wednesday, and I have no idea what to expect.
