Best Way?

Post by guesswho »

Whats the best way to get Jakes in gun range. I like carrying them out of the woods better than heavy longbeards.

Listen grasshoppers the Jakeman says feeder sounds. Get a tin can and some hard lima beans. We call it the shaker Jaker.
You'll kill Jakes.

There is an art to getting jakes into gun range. All longbeards must not even be considered when trying to harvest a wiley jake. You must learn to speak the Jakish language. There are only a select few true jake killers in this world & I am one of them. If I could just get all the pics of my jake beards & spurs posted on here you would see that I AM THE MAN !

gobblerD , thanks for trying but still no pics. You see , I live here in the sticks back in these Mountains of VA. & these puters act real funny sometimes. I dont give up easy so I'm not throwing the towel in yet. I'll keep trying to post pics but in the meantime flush all them jakes in my neck of the woods. Thanks for your patience.

What works for me after a real crappy day of chasing Toms is to get pissed off, and say the first thing that wanders in is going to die. Almost always shortly after that you will be taking home a Jake.

Remember Jay. Jakes don't gobble. Remember I'm always right. Except for the 6 or7 times I was wrong when we were hunting together.

Let a tail fan spin on an arrow shaft. Jakes like that too.

Most don't know that story. LOL. I'm sure glad I had the resident Florida expert, worshipped by the local rednecks, showing me the ropes in those parts. LOL. Well 3 Toms in 2 days wasn't bad, no matter where you hunt. We did good.

I also have a hard time killing them. I really wanted to kill one last year, but longbeards kept coming in instead. The only one I got in a talking conversation with, he just wouldn't get out from behind that bush where I could get a shot at him.

You have to go all psychcological on them. Just tell yourself the first longbeard that comes into range, you're gonna drill.
This reverse psychology will bring in a jake every time. Minus the gobbling, of course! :D

Now remember Ronnie, you can't even let the word jake into your mind. If you do, you will be overrun by longbeards, and never see a jake.
Clearing your mind of J-A-K-E will be the only way to ensure success!

This is a trophy I killed a few years back. Its a Multi-strand curl beard off a 11lb. 6 oz JAKE.

At camp, if someone gets cocky and starts bragging about the long beard they just killed... I bring this out and ask " you ever killed one of these?"

The answer is always"NO!" " I rest my point." Its harsh but I like to keep these longbeard killing hot shots in line.

Side note: I never actually saw the beard until after the shot and I walked up to the Bird. WOW what a surprise when I was able to find this beard under all those feathers!!
